Tailgate trim getting scratched....
Hey guys... Here is my dilemma:
The 2 black plastic pieces that are on the inside of the tailgate (the back and the bridge part) are getting scratched like heck on my x5... The culprit... My 2 week (Sophia) old's stroller... So my question is this... Has anyone put a sort of cover, or wrap on this trim to keep it getting from scratched? thanks in advance.. ak.. |

This is the trim I am talking about..
thanks. ak. |
You can always buy two sided velcro and $5 carpet from Walmart and cover it up nicely by cutting to size, but do you really want to do that? How bad are the scratches?
You can't really cover the top portion on the lower door because the "trim" rides over it when you close it, so you can only cover the "trim" the cover that slids over. |
Reminds me of my aunt house when I was a kid: Vinyl covers on all the furniture and plastic runners to protect the carpet.
Ta-cky My advice? Replace these parts when you ditch the stroller. or never. |
Well... Velcro and $5 carpet was not really what I had in mind for a $60K + Truck!
Vinyl covers and plastic runners, sounds like a plan... Where can I get this... J/K... But I do like the advice of replacing when I ditch the stroller, or never... The scratches are not deep, but can't remove them with anything.... This really sucks, knowing I've only put the stroller about 5-7 times in a 2 week period! I guess if there is someone that has actually put some type of covering, on it, please chime in.. or I will leave it as is... or replace later on... thanks. ak. |
Perked my interest too.. what can we do?

it's a cargo area; it's bound to get scratched.

Buy a stroller cover or big duffel bag for the stroller.

Ok.... GOT IT!!!
I was at the dealer today and the Service adviser asked me to follow him to a car in service... Another customer has had a smilisr issue, not sure if he is on the Xoutpost forum, "White X5M, with BLACK RIMS" .... he got a sheet of Carbon fiber and stuck (shrink wrapped, or with a heat gun, SIMILAR TO A WRAP ON A CAR) the 2 pieces of the tail gate... Yes, the inner piece does rub against the tailgate door, but that has felt, so no scratches.... This seems like a pretty good idea and worked for him... The carbon fiber on the X5 actually looked very good, and did not scratch and apparently the customer has had it on since delivery of his truck about 5 months ago.... So, I guess I am in the process of getting a sheet of adhesive carbon Fiber.... I will look online later, determine how much i need and go from there... When i start the project I will take pics, I did not have my phone with me when I went to see the X5:banghead: ak. Ak. |
