Yes or No

I am looking for my wife's dd and this one comes to my attention, its basic model, what do you think?

BMW : X5 BMW : X5 | eBay

The autocheck report link doesn't work, but I'd seriously look that over. Then if you are interested take VIN number to BMW and verify service and repair history, then if that seems OK, take it in and have it inspected. I did with my 2004 I bought in Plano TX so I'd have no surprises. I bought that car without seeing it in person and I got lucky that is was so cherry when it got here to Idaho.

If the lack of options are OK, it' looks good to me. Oh, missing a rear left bumper reflector.

Close .

I bought a similar one last year. check if this one has
- Navigation, Back-up Camera, Park Distance Control, Seat heater

If these items are present my vote would be YES else NO

I wouldn't buy a luxury car without those features. But that's just my opinion

I've heard of that dealer down there in Houston--I think they sell pretty clean cars-- but yeah check the records/history on it. As far as heated seats--we are in Texas--don't really need them.

My vote would be to keep looking. First I wouldn't buy anything from Texas Direct... there is a reason this vehicle is at auction and it probably isn't a good reason. Second, It is a stripper. I can't find one option other than the possible exception of the Xenon's (which may be standard in 2008). Third, IMO the 3.0 would be underpowered. Curb weight is roughly 5,500 lbs. With some patience you can find a nice used E70. I did.

BGM- bun warmers FTW! Definitely a "nice to have". I use them even in the Summer where they are great for your back on trips. They don't hurt first thing in the morning during the winter either.

Ha yeah I have heated seats--they are a "nice to have" here for the few days it's cold but definitely not a must like up north.

appreciate all the responses, this one has no nav, no back-up camera, just xenon and running board..pretty much basic...

4MoJoe 02-09-2012 06:03 PM

Looks like it has heated front seats; switches are there.

LocoLeche 02-10-2012 10:57 AM

My X has the heated seats. I wasn't originally looking for one with heated seats option but fortunately the one I purchased had them. I have used the heated seats almost every day. I won't buy another car without them.

There may be a lot of debate about importance of this or that option, but I think everyone will agree that a back-up camera on an SUV is a must.

3Series 02-10-2012 02:50 PM

On the pre-lci, the backup camera is a solid question. Decent when it's sunny out, worthless at night, when it's dirty and half the time it doesn't come on fast enough. But yeah, it's a nice feature. Soon it will be standard on all vehicles courtesy of the Federalis. I think 2014.

1. Understand that ANY used car is sold by USED CAR SALESMEN. BMW dealership, 'dealer', fancy high end used car store, or trailer on a lot..>ALL THE SAME. If anyone thinks the building matters, they are kidding themselves. (It can reduce the chance of getting screwed, but not the protection from getting screwed)

2. Forget about their "certified" crap. Insulting. Without any value. You MUST get your own inspection- AND NOT at a shop they recommend.

3. I assume their 'warranty' is crap. If they are the guarantors it is crap.

4. Can YOU buy a BMW warranty for that car? I would. I would not consider 3rd party warranties for a BMW.

5. Did I mention I don't trust used car dealers?

I would actually prefer not to have one. I don't find them useful, and they are just another thing to break. I do find PDC useful.

I'd argue that in general BMW dealers get 'first dibs' on used cars - lease returns, trade-ins, - and keep top cars while sending less desireable ones to auctions. As you know, auctions grade vehicles by condition, so typically small dealerships end up scooping from bottom lanes (high mileage, CELs, body damage, etc.).
Again, this is what happens in general, and there are exceptions, like all those stories about CPOs with body damage.
