diesel ?

Question 1: I am very close to purchasing an X5 diesel but I forgot to ask the dealer one thing, does it need a additive like Mercedes Bluetech? If so is there anyplace to order it from? It docent matter to me if it does or not other then to know and have a supply on hand if it does. The BMW site does not say anything about it that I could find. Question 2: I have a job that I try to optimize by geography so it is entirely possible that I will be in a very cold climate (As jobs there pay well), anybody have any problems starting the diesel in the cold? Thanks in advance for any info. JB

Do you mean Urea Refill? If so, yes it does need to be refilled usually around every 15,000 kms.

The urea refill, is commonly referred to as DEF ( Diesel Exhaust Fluid), and is readily available in a number of places; truck stops, auto parts stores and of course dealers. I have never experienced any issues with cold start even in sub zero temperatures. It just takes a few more seconds for the glow plugs to cycle.

Ditto. Cold starts are non-issues. Mine's sat in cold (below 0F) parking lots for a few days, and fired right up.

DEF is available and cheap, and BMW refills it for free during the free service period.

So BMW will take care of filling it, that indeed is good news.

BMW of course will want to sell you their version of AUS32, or Aqueous Urea Solution, 32.5%.... for 10 times what you can get it for in a truck stop or auto parts store.

Look for posts from Cdnrockies (i think). He live in cold. Like minus 30 cold. Some issues with very, very cold- but nothing you'd see here in most of the USA, IMO
