DIY 4.8 Oil Change

Anyone changing their own oil in a 4.8? I searched but can't find a DIY post for this. I change my own oil in all our vehicles and our previous E53 3.0 was a piece of cake and very inexpensive to do the oil change.

Anyone have any first hand experience or know of a DIY post I missed?

Thanks!

Everything is done from below as opposed to most other BMWs I've owned where the filter canister is on top. This is what I used to help me do it the first time:

How To Change Oil On A BMW

I changed mine 2 weekends ago.

The filter case (black) is beneath the car. Note: everything else is uncolored steel or aluminum, so look for the black case.
Remove the plastic undertray.
Unscrew the black filter cap, let drain.
Pull off old filter, let drain.
Near the filter cap are 2 large screws which need a hex drive. One is much smaller of a drive than the other. The smaller one is the oil drain. I used a large, angled allen wrench with a short cheater pipe to break this loose. Let drain.
Within filter kit (from dealer or online) is a new copper crush ring. Replace existing ring on drain plug and tighten.
Place new filter in compartment.
Replace large O-ring on filter case cover with new O-ring in filter kit.
Small O-ring is for 3.0 only, discard.
Fill 8.5 to 9 quarts of oil into oil fill port to the left of the engine as viewed from the front.

what's the oil capacity on the 4.8i?

don't want to overfill as I did on a 3 series without dipstick!

There's a dipstick on the 4.8i. But I put in 8.5 quarts and it's full.

How many miles do you go between your changes? Do you use Castrol full synthetic?

Mine is a new to me, and I've put about 20k miles on it so far. So this was because of the indicator.

I purchased a filter kit and the oil from my dealer, so yes it was the standard Castrol full syn.
