2012 E70 style 214 wheels on a 2008 E70, possible?

Hey guys,

I just wanted to post to verify with you all. I did search and saw that the E70 bores are 74.1mm and I'm assuming that the 2012's have the same measurements. That being said, if I were to purchase someone's 214's who has a 2012 E70, i should be able to just put them on without rings on my `08 E70 correct?

Thank you in advance.

As far as I know they should fit. But lets get a second opinion.

Unsure of actual wheel fitment but TPMS won't work directly from the 2012. You'll need "old" style ones.

Rule of "thumbs"...

Built before/during 09/2010: "old" style TPMS
Built during 10/2010: check VIN
Built during or after 11/2010: "new" style TPMS

Reason I know this? I actually was going to buy some 2010 wheels for my 2007. Then I learned TPMS' weren't included, but also learned the above information. So even if the 2010 TPMS' were included, I'd have had to resell them to buy "old" ones. You can still get new "old" ones, they're just a different type.

Good information on the TPMS', thank you. I still have my TPMS' from my stock wheels, so I think I'm good there.

I did come across a page that listed the different BMW models and there bore sizes. I saw that the E70's were listing 74.1mm, but it didn't give any years or limitations. So by that thinking I'm assuming that the 2012 wheels can go straight on. I tried calling the SA this morning too, and both were unhelpful. The comedy was one of them admitted to, "I just help the customer come in take down their report, information and issue with the car, and that's really it" He then transferred me to parts. That guy no help either. Told me to get the Vin from the other car, that would be the only way they could help me. I can see that though. However, I had thought that they would be knowledgable with that kind of info.

I've just gone through this exercise, and what I've found out and been told are the following.

1. All non M E70s have 74.1mm hub diameter all round (front and rears).
2. X5Ms E70s (and X6s) have 74.1mm hub diameter fronts and 72.5mm diameter rears.
3. You can fit X5Ms and X6s wheels onto a standard X5 by simply getting the rear wheels professionally bored out to 74.1mm or fitting a 72.5 hub ring (H&R sell these).
4. Some M Style E70 wheels are available in 74.1 bore size (ie. 333M)

I have the 333M (which came with the X5M) fitted to my 2008 X5 3.0d. I just need to fit the extended guards, as they just fit under. Giving my X5 somewhat of an aftermarket look - which I don't want.

In regards to the 214s, be careful where they were originally fitted on. Some were fitted on X6s. Which means the rears will have a bore size of 72.5. If they came from a non X5M E70, then they should be fine.

I hope that helps.

Hammer,

Yes it does help. The 214's I bought, was from a gentleman that had purchased a brand spankin new 2012 xdrive3.5, and had only put a little over 100 miles on the wheels/car. He drove to buy X6 wheels, took the 214's off and sold them to me. So I can verify it came from an X5, as well it is definitely OEM, has the Ronal Stamp and the BMW stamp and the "Mexico" stamp as well.

Should be good if it came off of a 3.5...and the bore sizes haven't changed. However, I've not come across any information that would support a bore size change with just a "normal" E70.

So as a follow up, yes in fact they do go on. Just went a local Tire Pro shop that deals with cars like BMW et al, and in fact confirmed E70 2007 year and up, are the same bore. Had them put on, and of course as the mod bug bit yet again, saw another modded X5, talked to the owner and has spacers put on. Loved the more aggressive stance. Goddamned bug.

spacers make it look a lot better... I was convinced by someone else here too.

rh71, just PM'd you but I'll ask here:

I too have an Alpin White X5, and saw and liked your setup. What % tint did you get for windows? Also your tail lights, what mod is it to smoke it out, full replacement? And did you put the Aerokit on yourself?
