CPO vs Non-CPO

Hello everyone! I'm from NJ and new to the forum. In the next 6 weeks or so, I'll be in the market for a new SUV. I currently have a 07 Ford Edge that I'm looking to significantly upgrade to either an E70 X5, Q7 or MDX, all either 08 -10 models. My heart screams X5 while my brain says MDX and the Q7 seems like the happy medium. I've found non-CPO X5's (3.0) on the market in NJ for under 30K with fairly low mileage (<50,000) in the 27 - 29k range. These vehicles are usually found on the 'high end' used car dealer lots, obviously these cars are not CPO, however, when I check the similar CPO cars @ BMW dealers I'm seeing pricing @ 35-37K. My question, is getting a CPO vehicle under BMW worth the hefty 6 to 8K premium? Are the benefits to the CPO really worth it? I do have a very good mechanic that services Euros who is very reasonable with his rates.

Sorry for the long winded 1st post but after perusing the forums here, I trust what you all have to say on this matter.

Thanks

A CPO should not have a $6K-$8K premium over non-CPO. I would keep looking for a better deal. And a majority under the CPO process put 4 new tires on it--which is at least a $1K - $2K (depending on what tire size) value put in the CPO. I bought mine off of a 2 year lease in L.A. with only 16K miles on it--they replaced all the Dunlops which costs usually $2,500. Plus you get the warranty through BMW.

From what I read when I bought my CPO is that it does not cover tires NAV trim pieces rattles but just about everything else.

CPO will be a $3-4k premium over a non CPO.

There are certain guidelines for the CPO process. Such as minimum specs for tire wear. If not met, they are replaced.
My dealer told me they even have to supply two keys, when they deliver a CPO car.

CPO comes up here on the ol'JukeBox every week or so. Just Fyi & fwiw, the lists of what's covered and not covered via BMW's boilerplate:
BMW Certified Pre-Owned - Warranty - Covered - BMW North America

Not covered is the next tab on that link...all subject to some interpretation by your friendly, or not so friendly dlr.

CPO Inspection guidelines can easily be found on web, eg a quick Yahoo search,
with links of the pdf inspection list(s).

From reading here on the Board, some dlrs obviously follow the rec's, and some give it a wash/wax by the $8 an hour kid, and sell it as 'CPO'.
CPO inspection guidelines - Yahoo! Search Results

Whether one feels more comfortable with the CPO net, and thus the usual extra cost built in, is up to the buyer.
