5.0 is one awesome truck!
Dropped of my 2004 4.4 with 106k miles and picked up my new 2012 X5 50 with 4 miles! What a ride. This thing is awsome!
I never drove the 50 when I was negotiating. But when I showed up to pick it up and started it up, wow, what a symphony! The engine sound really is impressive. I got the sport activity and love the sport wheel and paddle shifters. It looks awesome with the 19" wheels too. I ordered: Premium, Sport activity with 20 way seats, cold weather, 3rd row seats. I look forward to driving this truck. Its quickness and speed defies it's heft. I found myself a few times having to brake harder than I anticipated as the thing gets up and going so well you forget its still a large truck and needs some space to stop! My only note of caution: not sure this will be the best thing to own out of warranty. Every time I touch the truck or a button, I can hear some motor or servo doing something. Lots of toys, but would hate to be on the hook if they start breaking. But for now, who cares, this thing is so fun! |
NICE! CONGRATS!!
but :worthless: ps. why didn't yours come w/ 20" rims? |
20" are an option for the SA package. I wanted the all season tires, and I live in Boston and we're famous for our potholes. They are a rim eating phenomena.

Congrats on the new X!!
|
I agree. Congrats and enjoy!
|
Congratulations on the new vehicle!
It is a 50, or a 4.4tt, but never a 5.0 |
Congrats, but how in the hell did you drop that much money on a vehicle when you didn't even test drive that particular model?
|
I drove the x5 35 and liked it. I knew the 50 would be the same but better. Plus coming from the 4.4 it seemed logical to go to the 50.

nice....
i didn't test drive my 12 50i either but i did have an 08 X5 3.0.. the ride was great but lacked real power... i just knew the 4.4 would make a huge difference... and it did... had concerns about going to an 8 thinking i was going to have to refill every other mile... not really a concern anymore.. it gets thirsty but not as bad as i expected... and the extra hp is well worth it... |
You skipped the pre-lci 4.8 which I felt was a dog. if you liked your 4.4, you will absolutely love the 5.0. There are so many things which makes the 5.0 shine.

Yeah..funny how they did that. It's a 4.4 TT but they call it a 50...implying a 5.0. Especially confusing after the previous gen where it was 3.0, 4.4, 4.6, 4.8 and those all meant something. Even my 2007 4.8 is a 4.8. Damn you, BMW! Congrats. |

318 came with 1.9 litres sometimes 320 came with 2.0 and 2.2 litres at different times 323 came with 2.5 litres 325 came with everything, from 2.5 to 2.7 to 3.0 litres, possibly more 28 has meant 2.8 litres, 3.0 litres detuned, or 2.0 litres turbocharged 35 has meant 3.5 litres, and 3.0 litres turbocharged 40 has meant 4.0 litres, 4.4 litres, and 3.0 litres turbocharged It has been going on since the mid 1970s, when BMW brought out the first 3 series to replace the 2002. 50 is just the latest in a long line of 'not quite equal to displacement' as compared to actual displacement |

4.8 was "natural aspiration engine", 50 is twin turbo. I drove both, 4.8 felt quicker for me, I think because of lack of turbo lag.
|
Turbo lag is almost completely gone in that engine since it uses two turbochargers -one for low revs another for mid and highs. 4.4 TT is way faster - more HP and much more torque.
