Rear end sag, is this normal?
I tried searching with no luck. Mostly found issues with the E53 air suspension.
Vehicle is an '08 E70 4.8i. I come out this morning and the vehicle looks low at the rear. Low enough that it looked odd. So I grab a tape measure and the left rear is 1.5 inches lower than the right side. Hmmmmm... So I get in and start it up and let it idle for a minute or two. Shut it off and check it. It's better but still almost an inch out. So I jump in my company vehicle and drive to work. (the X5 sits for 3-5 days at a time.) I get home jump in the X and take my son somewhere. Get back and think to measure it again. Both sides are equal. I can't believe this is normal. Any similar issues or comments? I'll be checking it in the morning, but I am guessing the air suspension leaked down after sitting for 3 days, then recovered after a 30 min drive. Thanks Bill |
do you have rear air suspension or 3rd row seat? If you do then you might have an air leak on your air suspension and it's not normal. It should not sag at all. Mine doesn't sag even if car haven't been used for days.

Anyone else experience this? Thanks Bill |
I have an '07 4.8 and I do not have this problem. I have the 3rd row seats as well.

I measured it this morning and it was fine. May have to wait longer.

Rear airbags leaking somewhere. Hope you still have warranty, its not cheap

Mine had exact the same, changed the airpump and the x-drive valve. After that it was just fine. Cost approx. 800 euro incl. tax and 1/2 hour work at bmw dealer.

I have been driving it every day lately, so no issues. I did check it this evening, as it sat for a day and a half. If was about and 1/8" low on the left. I figure it will be tough to convince the dealer if I can't replicate it. |
My 07 4.8i with 3rd row (air suspension in the rear) hisses a bit when I first unlock it...but I never notice any shift in height. I've watched for it many times too...

Not sure if CPO covers this, but you always want to get stuff done under the OE warranty if possible. A |
Always in park position, some days more then for days or weeks not. No regularity.
Positioning of left side sensor, replacing sensor/air suspension several times, no effect. Then replaced the air compressor and the x-drive valve, everything works perfect, even while parking. No problems any more. 30 Minutes work, nearby the right front wheel. |
Thanks for the advice and info. Trying to let it sit the rest of the week. We'll see...
