Instructions for removing passenger mirror?

Does anyone have a DIY for the above. Reason I ask is the motor controlling the mirror is gone and dealer said that 9 out of 10 times when the glass is removed it shatters. But get this, they want to charge for the glass if it breaks!

So now I've bought the replacement motor and looking to do it myself.

Thanks but that's for the old X5. I have searched and come a cross that but looking at oem pictures they are different to the E70.

Well looks like I answered my own question. Had a go at removing the glass and sure enough..... Crack! It is held on by several clips and the only way to remove it is by prying with a flat blade with quite some force. Inevitable that the mirror will crack. Only way I see would be to pull from both top and bottom at the same time, or to gently pry from each corner one at a time but you would need something really thin in order to fit within the gap between mirror and housing.

I've removed both mirrors inserts several times to install the OEM Euro mirrors with no issues. I tilted them all way down and used a pannel puller with a towel between the mirror and the black frame then pulled it out far enough to get my fingers in there. Applied constant, gentle out ward force and they popped off. No broken glass, no broken clips. I have a set of stock US mirrors with autodim and heat that I can make you a deal on if you like. drop me a PM.

Thanks for the offer but I already ordered another set, besides mine is the European style with the wide angle.

After looking at the clips again I figured too late how I would next do it without breaking the glass. Oh well, live and learn.

Did you get the motor replaced?
Mine is moving very slowly in the vertical direction, but fine horizontal.

Thanks in advance...

That's how mine started.

I got the motor and mirror replaced a while back. The motor is really easy to remove. Once the mirror glass is off you will see the motor which is held in place by a few Philips head screws.

I had to remove another mirror on another car and came up with my own method for not cracking the glass.

Find a piece of long flat plastic that is used to package boxes/parcels. Cut into 2 pieces. Slide the plastic pieces behind the mirror glass about 1/3 of the way in on either side. Put a towel on the mirror glass and then grab the free ends of the plastic and pull slow but hard.

Thanks for the tips... I'll try that.
Do you know/remember where you got the motor?

I got motor from ECS tuning. Can't remember exact price but was about $180.
