315 Rears without flares...

Anyone running 315 rears without flares?

Pics would be great!!

I tried and they look silly and will probably throw stones and chip the paint. I only run the rear flares, fronts look good with the standard flairs.

Gotcha, I think I will go with the flares if I add the 20 inch package.

I have seen some pics of 20s without flares that look really good, with the Vossen wheels, the wheels are about 0.5 in narrower than the 214 or M sport wheels.

Until this weekend I did not have any extended flares on my X5. I got my 20' wheels about 4-5 weeks ago. The plan was to always fit the extended flares. It was just a matter of when I got the time to fit them once the flares were received. So in total, my car was without extended flares for about 4-5 weeks. Long enough time to really determine which to me looked better.

As you'll see on the photos, the fronts are OK, but the rears just stick out a tad. To me it gives the car a custom or modified look, which I don't like. IMO it cheapens the look of the car.

I've since fitted the extended flares (just this weekend gone), and I like the look of my X5 better with the extended flares. I might just be able to fit the original mudflaps too. I'm yet to fully fit and measure them. Hopefully this weekend I can play around with fitting.

I'll post a DIY on fitting the flares shortly.

Here are sample photos of my X5 without the extended flares. Apologies for the quality of the photos, they were taken with my phone in low light.

PS. These are genuine BMW 333M wheels. with the factory width and offset. I know with some aftermarket replicas, they are a little narrower (9.5 & 10.5) and have incorrect offset which will bring the wheels more inboard. So if you're not using genuine factory width and offset, you might get away without the exteded flares.

Thanks Hammer!!!

Those pics are great.

You are right about the aftermarket wheels being 10.5 in the back and also slightly sitting more inward on the X5. I really the Vossen dealer and my wheel guy said the wheels will sit flush without the flare.

I really don't want the flares if I don't need them.

Maybe I will just install the new wheels and tires and see how they look then make the decision.

nicer with flares no doubt

I would definitely add flares. The car is going to look much better with the flares and vossens rather than without the flares and vossens.
