Touch buttons going wild

The memory buttons (the programmable touch ones, 1-8) started to act weird: usually after I drive for about 3 hours, they start "pushing" themselves. Number 4 usually, but sometimes 2 and 3 also. Is it possible to completely disable them? They are distracting and I don't use them anyway.

You can delete what's programmed in the buttons so that they'll be blank. Not sure if this will solve your problem though.

I have them all blank, but they still act as if I touch or even push them, even if my hands are on the steering wheel. I am curious if it is a software (the idrive imagining that I push them) or a hardware (the buttons wrongfully sending pushed status to the idrive) issue.

I've been searching the manual on resetting the programmable memory keys, but to no avail.

How do you reset these memory keys? Thanks.

It's called `Delete favorite keys` or something like that, in the setup menu.

As about my actual issue, I guess the CCC unit is overheating and detecting false touches over the buttons. Is there a DIY for removing the CCC unit? The E60 one was easy to remove, it had a screw right above the display, which is missing on the E70.

Still looking for the DIY. Or maybe a NCS coding value that will disable the fav. keys.

Do you really have 8 programmable buttons in your X5 or did you mean to say 1-6??

I do, though I wish I had none.

So is this a different Euro-spec, because we have only 6 over here, and I for one wish we had more...

chas3 09-03-2012 11:57 AM

I can't say for sure if it is an Euro thingie, but all the E70 I checked, both in Germany and Romania, had 8 buttons.
