Question for European X5 owners

Where does BMW put the first aid kit and triangle? We don't have these on US models.

In Australia, which I'm assuming they're the same as the European models, these are located on the left hand side of the boot (or trunk), along the vertical sides behind a carpeted door (which has a first aid sign on it).

I've used this photo (taken from this forum) and encircled the area where both the triagle and first aid kit are kept.

It's behind this pull out panel in the boot.

not trying

to hijack your thread, but I had another question for european owners. What brand/type of engine oil does BMW recommend for the M57 diesel engine in your respective countries? Thanks

Not trying to hijack your question, but it will depend on fuel composition as one of the variables, and fuel varies between North America and Europe. That is in addition to the supply agreements, ie which oil company has paid to have their name on the valve cover.

Thanks for the picture, but how are they strapped in? I'm only asking because I'd like to put a triangle and first aid kit in the car as it came from the factory for the Euro market.

In the German owner's manual, BMW states to use LL-04 spec oils preferred for top offs; Alternatives include LL-01 and LL-98 and ACEA A3/B4.

I would go as far as to say that if say, the nearest BMW dealership was too far away, that you could use any LL-04 for oil changes.

As long as you don't live in North America and drive a gasoline model. Low TBN combined with ethanol and our fuel sulphur levels means the oil breaks down prematurely. OK for diesels.
