Extended Maintenance Plan

has anyone purchased the extended service plan covering scheduled maintenance? It's approx $2,500 for a 2 yr extension from the new car plan. My 08 comes off warranty and the service plan next month. Just not sure if it's worth it. My car has approx 38,000 miles. I drive about 10k per year.

I bought it (at a discount) because I bought BMW's Extended Vehicle Protection too. Is it worth it? Tough to say until the 6 years is up... I only do about 7K miles per year.

One of the primary reasons for me buying the BMW Maintenance Plan Upgrade is that there is not a single good independent shop anywhere near me so I have to take to the dealership for service (where I can get a loaner car too). The only indie that we have nearby is a MB-based shop and its prices are the same as the dealership's.

BTW, your profile picture reminds me that I take a picture with my new 336 wheels :)

i have it, and i think it was probably a waste of money. but if you don't do your own brake changes or oil changes it might be worth the extra $1500.

and i'm putting 20 - 22K on the vehicle every year.

1. What maintenance has been done on YOUR CAR so far, by 38,000 miles??

This will let us predict what you might need by 48k and 58k miles, end of years 5 and 6.

2. Are you 100% up to date on all maintenance? So brake fluid flush done at the required interval?

3. Any indys around?

I got mine at a discount as well when I bought the tire protection (which has already paid for itself and have 3.5 years left). I did it mainly for the brakes as full brake job at my indy is $1,400. My calculation is I will need at least 2 rears done, 1 front (the next front will be close to the wire when the extended maintenance expires 8/12).

My car has only been in for scheduled maintenance as called for by the service interval indicator. Just brought it in a few weeks ago for oil, filters, brake flush, etc. Everything is up to date and the car has been trouble free since new. My debate is that if I'm only going to bring it in once per year for the next 2 years based on the mileage, will those service appts. cost more than $2,500? Moreover, my warranty is expiring, so if something goes that is not a wear and tear item, I have to pay for it anyway.

OMG. I ask questions for a reason!

look above, see #1? There is a reason I asked that.... if you have had NO brake jobs and are at 38k, it is a different story than if you had brakes done at 36k!

In fact, the condition of your brakes is the SOLE factor in answering your question...would take me 5 minutes if the car was in front of me (slide under, take a mirror, peek at the pads...)

it is IMPOSSIBLE to answer your question of "will these two annual visits exceed $2500" unless you answer the question of what maintenance was done.
