Left Brake Lamp Malfunction!

1 Attachment(s)
Hello everyone,

I need to pick your brain on this one. Just got the aforementioned warning on my 2008 X5 3.0si, and when I checked the brake lamps/bulbs, this is what I saw (pic below): the top housing is burnt. There's a crack in it as well with the burn marks. Now per the manual, the brake lamp is the middle socket (2nd from top in the pic), which I checked and bulb looks ok to me. However, the housing which shows burn signs is like fixed, it's not something that I could turn and open.

So I am not sure what have had happened there. What is that socket? should I just change the brake lamp and test it out, or take it directly to the dealership and get it checked? and is that section/socket/piece covered in the BMW's extended/certified warranty (that's what I have currently on my X)?

Thank you

replace that tail lamp since it is damaged, if the other side is ok, you can replace the bulb holder wiring harness with an updated part then there is a updated software that is available to reduce the voltage to the rear light to prevent this from happening.

He's in Canada, good luck getting those prices. Tischer isn't shipping to Canada anymore, and even their prices are higher

I'm curious to know where you are getting your pricing?
Shipping to Canada usually involves higher shipping, brokerage, and 13% taxes on the total. (for Toronto).
