The right price

Well, three years into an Odyssey and at the end of the lease, I'm thinking of buying another X5. This time an E70, 4.8, 2007, 70k. I previously had an E53 3.0L which I would have never sold if my wife and kids didn't demand a bigger car.
Before I dig the internet are there any big issues with the 07 model that I should look for right away?
On an E53 it was easy to spot the upgrade packages by just looking at some pictures. A little difficult for me on the new X5. Here is one that I will be checking this weekend.

If everything seems to be ok with the car, does anyone think I would offend the buyer by offering $23-24k cash?
Thanks for our time

Well, of course you know 1st year model runs have more issues usually. Also, do you feel comfortable buying off of Craiglist ? Other concerns should be how many owners, the service history, etc.

I get to see the car and drive it. The guy claims he's the only owner though I have to see the papers to believe him.

Highly recommend you do a PPI, particularly if you're buying a first year e70 with over 70K miles. As far the offer, don't think the seller should be offended by the offer. Worst case scenario, he says no and that's it. Good luck!
