Tools included in trunk?
1 Attachment(s)
I recently got a used 2012 X5 and was curious if the tools in my trunk are all that it's suppose to come with. There appears to be openings for a couple other items. I wasn't sure if they are related to the spare tire which is missing or do I need to ask the dealer.

The last (bottom in this picture) slot should be for the red T handle that releases the electronic shifter and parking brake (or it was on my 2008) in the event of a dead battery and needing to tow the vehicle....I found it humorous that it was in the back where it was inaccessible if the battery was dead as you couldn’t open the tailgates (or even the glove box to get at the manual to figure out how to put the SAV onto a flatbed) and kept mine in the driver’s door pocket for emergency. Perhaps the system has changed in 2012’s and the tool is no longer needed.

You seem to be missing the red plastic tool for unlocking the transmission.

1. Unlock driver's door using valet key 2. Crawl into cargo area 3. Remove cargo cover 4. Pull the cord to manually open the tailgate 5. Get the tool, release park brake. |

I think the diesel and the gas versions have different releases (ie you can get a 2013 gas now, but the 2012 diesel is the latest model). That might be why

My March 35i was a 2012

"Toolbox" is also missing sunroof emergency crank (allen wrench in picture?) and open end wrench.

The tool is not needed for the new transmission, as BMW is sure it will never malfunction and need a manual override... |
My 2011 came with the red release for the transmission but not the wrench or the sunroof crank (which I bought). I believe that the 8 speed in the 2011s is the same unit as the 2012s and 2013s.
I haven't looked under the cup holder insert for the release but will. Strange that they would have in a 2011 and not later model years if the trans is the same. |

Or you can go to any of the online part databases...and look up the part you're interested in and get the BMW 11 digit part nbr...then search the internet using that 11 digit part nbr (it helps to shop with the nbr rather than generically because not all things are the same during a production run). Click links above the diagrams to go directly to the part nbr index: Onboard equipment | BMW X5 E70 LCI X5 35dX M57N2 USA http://ills.bmwfans.info/avdu.png {#9 in diagram below & link to part nbr index is the sunroof's emergency tool} Electric panoramic roof | BMW X5 E70 LCI X5 35dX M57N2 USA http://ills.bmwfans.info/g25r.png {#11 in diagram below is the "orange" handle for emergency unlocking if vehicle is so equipped} Parking brake/actuator | BMW X5 E70 LCI X5 35dX M57N2 USA http://ills.bmwfans.info/a7dr.png |
Thanks
