I wish we could at least get the nav software upgrade.

The BMW GPS hardware and display are already an A+ in my opinion. MY question is when will they get accurate data behind the GPS to support the hardware? I give their GPS database and routing a D at best.

They need to go back to using NACTEQ and ditch Tele Atlas. But, being Euro-centric, I suspect they will stick with TeleAtlas.

Looks nice. Would be cool to have the google street view integrated now in the current generation of BMW Online...

It is ironic that as the software improved, the maps were ruined with the dismissal of NAVTEQ.

I agree. The routing makes no sense most of the time. The database is terrible, which contributes to the 20+mile detours that it tries to send me on. The time to target estimations are ridiculous, since it thinks any two lane road has a max speed limit of 25mph. To top it off, my 2012 does not even have the road my house is on. The road has been public since 2007.

It apparently takes a while for the news to get to the Netherlands....

This...

the comments on that site are brutal. People want touchscreens, people think the rotary is dated and want dedicated buttons. I'm a techie myself but I can see why they kept the rotary system... it is easier to use while the car is in motion rather than pecking at buttons - same with keeping away from a touch-screen - I tried using my dad's Garmin while on the road and it was definitely more dangerous reaching out finding exactly the spot I needed to tap multiple times within 15 seconds to get what I wanted.

Seeing the video, the "popular pictures" of destination is a bit useless, though I do often use bing maps' birds-eye view to get an idea of the denseness of the area I'm headed to for things like parking spaces and what kind of area it is. Looks like it has that and you can imagine they will build on it down the line.

I'm still on the previous gen I-drive and would love even the current generation since it's so much more responsive. Scrolling across the map right now is painful and most times so is waiting for the route to calculate. Like everyone else, I just wish it was upgradeable.

As for map updates, it's definitely behind but for what I use it for I've got no complaints even though I'm still on '10 maps.

Google street view is available today with current idrive with BMW live.

apw2607 05-31-2012 02:10 AM

I think it's safe to say it will arrive in the next generation x5. With the addition of the new touch controller. It's doubtful though that this new system will be made available in the current x5, but you never though.

As noted in the video, the screen resolution has not changed but the CIC hardware has being changed significantly with faster processor and the nvidia graphics processor.

This is still a incremental update to idrive. A newer true next gen system is suppose to arrive in MY. 2014.
