New X5 owner in Australia

Hi all

i am new to the forum, from Sydney Australia

Just brought an second-hand MY08 X5 3.0D for $56500 AUD, i know you peope in US cant believe it, I can get a Brand new in US with the same amount of money~~, but its pretty good deal in Australia, the car is in good condition, travels only 59000 Kms, the guy only had it for 4 month, he brought it off from a car dealer for 70K he says....

First thing to do with the car will be the wheels, thinking about Vossen CV1, 20inch or 22? need help~~ and what are the sizes for tyres

20" will have 315 x 35 on the rear & 275 x 40 on the front, also you need to put on wider rear wheel arch flares otherwise the tyres will extend out from the mud guards to much, also you will need new mudflaps on the rear as the flares change the rear gaurds shape and the old mudflaps cannot be re-used.

To install the flares you have to remove what flares you currently have installed. The plastic pop-rivots cannot be reused and you need a special rivot tool to install them.

I think if you check eBay in the US they may have them plus the rivot tool, otherwise by them off a BMW dealer as spare parts.

PS. Some X5 models actually have screws which secure the flares, it just depends on which flares or wheel arch trim you currently have installed on your X5.

Welcome to the X5 community.

Early this year, I went through the same exercise. I replaced my 19" inch wheels with OEM 333M 20" wheels.

I also fitted OEM wide flares to go along with the wheels. Right now I don't have any mud flaps, but somehow when I see other X5's with 20" wheels and mudflaps, the car look much wider. Hmmm.

Congrats on your purchase.
I got 20 inch wheels, and it looked weird without the wider flares. I ordered from Bimmerzone.com. awesome retailer. Vincent who is the owner is really good at answering any questions. The shipping for the flares is expensive though, considered an oversized package. He doesn't carry the flares, but arranged it with the BMW dealership in his area.

Congrats on the purchase! $56k is a good buy for a 08 model...how many kms has it done? Are you planning to do any performance mods besides the wheels?

I've recently installed a DTUK diesel tuner box, what a total transformation.

The acceleration is a lot linear and wider, the box is fully adjustable. Pretty happy so far. I can't wipe the simile off my face.

Definitely worthwhile to consider. have a look at this site:

You shouldn't feel any vibration at all.

I've sent you an PM about the diesel box.

As for the exhaust, you wouldn't get any gain at all for diesel engine. I've only changed the stock exhaust tips with the oval 4.8i, it looks more aggressive.
