Space Saver Spare

I'm about to pick up a "new-to-me" 2009 X5 with Sport Package (and a few other options as well). My question is this: should my X5 come with a Space Saver Spare in the trunk? My X has Dueler Runflats.

My salesman is telling me that the SAV does not come with a spare. Is this true?

Thanks in advance!

your salesman's right the space saver is a stand alone option on x5,s since a few years now. I had the same dilemma when i bought my 08 x5 two months ago.

^ Correct. What I suggest is getting a kit such as the M Mobility kit (found HERE) or going a head and getting the BMW Emergency Wheel and having their local tire shop put a narrow tire on it. One thing to keep in mind is you're going to need new lugs for the space saver/spare/emergency wheel, it uses different length lugs that the stock wheels on your X5. HERE is a link to a custom cart with the wheel and proper lugs dropped into it for your.

There is also this kit that gives you the tray, jack, wheel and tire...etc.

If the car has third row seats, you cannot get the spare.

But without 3rd row, you CAN have the optional spare- the salesman, of course, is likely categorically telling you what he needs to tell you to close the deal. THAT car may not have been ordered with a spare, or someone deleted it, but you could order 2009s with the spare.

Forget the Mobility kit- ruins the tire and the TPMS.

If you lean on the dealership, hard, they might toss one in- or at least beat the price GetBMWparts has...

I ordered mine from Bimmerzone.com. Fits perfectly underneath the floor in the back. I have non run flats now so it's an essential thing to have.

I don't have 3rd row seats. I'll check out bimmerzone right now.

However, I have 19" wheels that come with the sport package. The bimmerzone spare tire is 18".

If that spare is the proper sized tire/wheel combo, it will be within a couple mms of your 19s, rolling circumference, and will not be a problem.

I agree with ard: skip the 'goop' for tire fixes. A good plug kit would not hurt: easy to use, and will get you down the road, if the spare is not an option.

Are you sure about the different-sized lug nuts for the spare? I hadn't heard that before. I bought the spare after-the-fact, and didn't see any references anywhere to different lug nuts.
