debris in headlight assembly
Does anyone else have this issue? I have sand, dry water residue, and insects in my passenger headlight housing? Dealership says it is not a warrantable item as the unit is not a fully sealed unit. why wouldn't it be fully sealed? is it to dissipate heat?
Any fixes and prevention for the future? |

it's in the shop for other warrantable items at the moment. They said they'll use an air compressor and try to blow the debris out and see what they can do but WILL NOT replace it.

First off they sound like you have normal halogen lights not Xenon. If so for insects to get into the light fitting the back plastic cover plate that covers the bulb must be missing? |
nope. I have the xenons and the cap is present and tight. I checked that before dropping the vehicle off today.
|
Well I would be asking how the insects got into the light, did you buy the X5 new? the lights are sealed to certain degree otherwise water would get in when it rains?
|
Bug is quite small, and I think the water droplets were from condensation (they said it's normal). Guess we will see what they say when I get it back.

The bug probably got in when the light was assembled. |
I would really push for the warranty to replace it. I think thats ridiculous, especially if youre under original warranty.

Ya I am waiting for an update on the vehicle. I think even if it is not a sealed unit, I shouldn't have sand in it. Dust, MAYBE! I'll see. And I find that both sides, the xenons get so hot it makes a slight discoloration right infront of the lamp. But I have seen other bimmers with that issue and they say it's normal..
