Flipping front tires on 214's
I have a 2011 35i with the 214 wheels and Dunlop RFT tires. The outside edge of my front tires are wearing considerably faster than the insides. I'm thinking about unmounting them and flipping them around so the insides are on the outsides. Has anyone done this or have any thoughts?

There is a school of thought that suggest a tire should always rotate in the same direction after installation….whether it's true or not is a matter of great debate on this, and many other boards. If you’re un-mounting the tires, why not just then remount on the other side of the vehicle so rotation stays the same but outer tread is swapped with inner…
Can’t remember if there is an inner and outer marking on the Dunlops…that would be the only other concern. |
Sorry...yes, I would be rotating them side/side as well. This will ensure the directional spin remains the same. Never thought about the inner/outer markings. I'll have to take a look.

Fine to do that. HWOEVER, also check the alignment. DO NOT rely on "just whatever the BMW spec is"...SET the toe to 0.02 (0.01 to 0.03)... any decent tire store can do this.
BMW has a wide spec on toe and many fast wear issues are due to the toe being on the upper range of their spec. A |
