Replacing AMP - Does it need programming?

It seems that I will need to replace my amplifier (TOP HI-FI) due to the "popping" sounds that I'm experiencing with my audio system. I called the delaership and they told me that I need to purchase a new amp ($1,140) and that it requires programming.

I looked at the amp wiring / connection and it seems like a plug-and-play deal, not difficult at all.

Can someone confirm that programming is necessary when replacing the amp?

Thanks!

Why don't you try it without programming? You can always take it to the dealer afterwards for programming.

I will try that. Now, another question...I found an used amp. Mine says that it is a TOP Hi-FI Lear L4. The seller is telling me that he has a L6 from a 2009 X5 and that this amp is an upgraded model from the L4 and should work with no issues. I saw the connectors and they are the same.

Do you guys see a problem with this?

I want to try the used one since:
1) it's is only $300 vs $1,200 new
2) I can return it if it does not work
3) What if the popping sound is not from the amp?

I will appreciate your feedback!

Do you have premium sound?

Yes. Top Hi-FI with MOST.

Just to provide you guys with an update:

I received and installed the TOP Hi-FI Lear L6 amplifier. It worked fine and it is a "plug and play" deal, no programming required.

The audio system is working perfectly now!

The only issue I had when installing the amp was the brace system to unplug the wiring harness. The "brace" needs to be pushed all the way to left to the wiring harness to unplug. Other than that, piece of cake!!!

excellent. Thanks for posting the followup. Posting the actual BMW part number for both amps might help too....
