USB Port has no power
Had the battey changed and the needed programming/registration done. Now the USB Port in the center console has no power and isn't recognized by the iDrive... Check the USB HUB under the Gear Selector... See below.
Any ideas? Thanks, |

I had the same problem with my USB port but it was my cord. It was a cheaper $5 one from Walgreens. It worked all last week in my car but not this week. Go figure. I put in another cord and now it's working.

Which Fuse?
Just using a USB Memory Stick...
No cables involved. Worked great for the past 2.5 years, now doesn't work... Checked several fuses, everything seems to be fine... The Aux jack next to the USB port works fine, but the USB is dead...??? |
Still no USB
Had the X5 at the stealership yesterday and they can find nothing wrong with the USB module. No codes, and a hard battery reset made no difference. They wanted to just pull the module and replace with a new one for $600, and I just can't justify that.
Thought I would make an MP3 CD and play it instead, but can't get the in-dash CD player to recognize the CD-R and read the files. Is there some special procedure for copyiong MP3 files (that play on any other device known to man) on a disc for the X5 to read? I can't create the CD in Vista, so used Nero and now have a CD with MP3s that works. This is getting rediculous! Thanks in advance, John B |
USB HUB!
After some additional research and a review of the Schematics, I suspected the USB HUB, which is under the gear selector in the center console. This acts just like a USB HUB for a PC/MAC.
It was the culprate. Had 12v power to it, but nothing (5v) coming out of it... Pretty easy to get to and replace (Part #84109200503 @$112) and now back up and rockin' Total time for the repair was about 30 minutes. Not sure why the stealership had no clue, as they had these in stock, but at least they didn't get anymore of my $$s. Edit... They are refunding my "diagnostics charges" as well... Thanks, John B |
Way to go John!
It is astonishing how dealership mechanichs have become video game players...'if there is not code, then there is no problem' A |
great job finding the problem! As for the MP3 CD thing. Are you an itunes user? Itunes makes it a no brainer to burn to mp3.

If I use iTunes, wont the CD have access rights limitations per iTunes?
I used Nero and the disc worked fine, but now that I have my USB back, no need for the CDs... Thanks. |
