07 X5 Rear Strut Replacement

Anyone replace the rear struts on their X5? I've got the sport package, third row, and self leveling suspension.

One of my struts is leaking a bit and I'm trying to gauge how much the damage will be at the dealer (and of course CPO doesn't cover it).

In Canada it cost about $3000 with labor.

The CPO doesn't? Are you sure? I was always told it did

The problem may be the classification "wear parts" and the shocks are considered "wear parts" in a lot of extended warranties unless specifically inclusive. Read you CPO exclusions to see if there is any mention. I hope you can get this covered.

"told" being the operative word.

The problem with the self leveling suspension - Denalio had a good thread on the subject- is that the strut includes the air bladder that achieves the self leveling. When it leaks, the strut needs to be replaced. BMW excludes the strut as a 'wear and tear' item. I've looked at the language and it is pretty tight, as I recall they explicitly list this as a non-covered part.

Ended up selling the X5 to my local indy. He wanted it as a pet project...Onward to newer things, too bad, loved the x5...way too many issues though.

How many miles did you have on your X5 when this problem appeared?

For me I had it done twice. Once at around 40,000 KMS and second at 125,000 kms.

Around 68k, crazy that they could go so soon. The replacement cost is redic, especially with adaptive drive.

No CPO on struts / shocks!

I did mine (along with bushings) at 95k miles on my e53 with sport package. Wasn't cheap as with the air adjustable suspension, you have to use OEM.
