I'll give you my impression, based on posts.... given the end of production and the rarity of 2012s, the price has blipped up a bit. Over the last year $500 over cost was the benchmark- some reportedly got it for less, but you wonder if the dealer made $$ on the trade, or financing. $1000 over seemed to be very comfortable for most people to achieve more recently.

I expect once the 2013s begin to roll, and especially once winter is fully underway (ie into February), pricing will relax.

Just my perception, probably wrong.

well said, last year people were a little more liberal with disclosing there numbers to the rest of us.

While the $500 to $1,000 over invoice is still a STARTING point, there are a LOT of incentives so most of us are paying between $9K & 11K UNDER MSRP.

Mine was "technically" $200 over invoice before those discounts but my particular dealer also added a $499 "administrative" fee and charged MACO fees & $275 in "dealer prep" as well so mine was actually closer to the typical $1K over invoice before discounts. Reduce that by the $4,500 eco credit, the $750 loyalty credit, the $500 BMW Finance "Apps" (Facebook) credit on first payment and I came out similar to others around $9K off MSRP.

Although I had previously owned a 7-series, I was not a current member of BMWCCA otherwise I would have gotten another $1K back. If I had been a member of the military, I could have qualified for another $2,500 via the USAA program but then would have had to of sacrificed the $1,250 BMW finance incentives.

MSPR for mine was right at about 60K and I paid $52,500. I had a hard time finding what I wanted in color and options and so I prolly paid a bit more than some other aggressive dealers I had contact with. My neighbor just picked up a used 2011 with sport, NAV and premium with 20K miles for $43,000

I said "cost" not invoice. Cost is invoice minus all incentives.....

ordered 2012 in Sept from factory, premium, pkg, sport package with 20s, spare tire, running boards, nav, bmw apps.... 3k under invoice after all incentives. Leasing it for 600 a month, no money down.

ARD - Sorry but you might have said that but you don't know the details about the hold back or other (internal) dealer details so there is really no way for use to know the dealer's ACTUAL COSTS. Dealer cost is different than what the public (even use edju-ma-cated uns on these forums) are aware of.

Based on what I have learned from one of those internal sources*, your dealer probably made about $2,500 off your deal (even when we THINK they are only making $200). In my post I also pointed out that some incentives are not available to some buyers and we all know that the actual dealer costs does not fluctuate based on what buyers qualify for. Corporate absorbs most of those incentives.

Either way, The OP asked how close we were getting to invoice. Your write up may have lead him to equate invoice to "costs". I think by now he/she now understand that these can be purchased well under Invoice (His question)

I'm not disagreeing.

But saying "you can get it under invoice" is as descriptive as "You can get it under MSRP".

Of course you can do both. Given the incentives that are published, these become useless distinctions.

On what dealers make on a car...I'm not sure I agree with the numbers, although it definitely depends on the dealer, the model, and the time of year. I had the first 2012 X5 diesel on this forum- do you think BMW was packing trunk money into that car? Or was it just a quarterly bonus to the dealer based on his total volume? But in the end, it is a market process, and as long as what you are paying os close to what others are paying, you are not paying over market.

Agreed. It maybe easier for most to calculate the discount off the window sticker & individuals are getting from $8K to $11K off off that based on their individual discounts.
