Recall letter finally arrived, seemed like forever, haha.

I had the bolt replaced under the recall last October and the NEW bolt failed today! I drove around this morning with NO power steering. You cannot believe how heavy the steering is with no power. The car died just as I made it to my dealer. They ordered a new part and it will be her on Monday. I asked how my car could fail after it had already been repaired under the recall program and they did not know. The drive belt fell off of the pulley once the bolt broke. I was surprised there was NO noise once the belt fell off.

Thanks for sharing and glad you made it to the dealer just in time.

Keep pressing them for answers and let us know how it goes. I'm barely going in for my recall so I'll be sure to ask them how many incidents they have documented.

I LOVE my 528i x drive loaner car! It is good enough to make me leave my X5 at the dealer!

Grass is always greener when you're driving someone else's car. ;)

Did you get your X5 back, how's it feel?

Hoping they also give me a 5 as a loaner. :D

Are you supposed to get that circle sticker with the punch outs that goes on the drivers door jamb?

Good thing you posted, I checked the door jamb and saw a silver round sticker. It listed numbers 70-99, or similar, and the only number punched out was 80. Maybe they anticipate more recalls? lol Let's hope not!

BTW, they gave me a new 328 loaner and that thing surprised the hell outta me! Virtually no turbo lag, plenty of punch, tight but cushy suspension, and leagues better than the outgoing E90 328. Definitely wouldn't mind getting one for my mom. :D

Well, what goes around comes around...again. My X5 had the recall "bolt replacement, re-torque, thread lock" work performed in Jan 2013. Exactly 3 years later, the bolt snapped and all heck broke lose. Dynamic Stability error, Charging error and loss of power assist steering. I was able to get car to dealer for repair. Was quoted $825+ for repair. I let the SA know this issue was subject of a recall and that for a "replacement" bolt to break in 3 years was a major point of concern. They are submitting paperwork to BMW NA. In my instance, the dealer could not extract the remain portion of the bolt and broke their extractor. Today a welder is bringing brought in to attach an extension to the bolt so it can be removed. Fingers crossed nothing is damaged and I get my car back later today.

Anyone else have this recall repair fail on them?

So you OKd the work but are asking them to pay?

In the future, it is my opinion that you should NOT OK the work- demand that it be covered, insist that they resolve it first with BMW.

Once you agree, they have little motivation.

YMMV of course, all depends on the relationship....
