E70 DS Mode Signal

Hello all,

I want to setup an exhaust valve similar to the X6 system on my 2007 E70 X5 4.8i.

Is there a way to get the DS mode signal to act as a trigger to open the valve when DS is engaged and close the valve when DS is disengaged?

Cheers.

May I ask why? (I legitimately don't see a reason for this, please enlighten!)

I probably should have explained it a bit better.

I'm putting a Varex exhaust on the car (muffler with integrated valve that allows the muffler to be used as either a conventional type muffler or straight through muffler) so that I can change it from sounding stock to having a bit more grunt.

This system works off of a remote control similar to a garage door opener that opens and closes the valve at the press of a button.

What I want to do is set it up so that when I put the car into DS mode it automatically opens the valve and when I put it back into D mode it automatically closes the valve.

I am going to remove the remote control system and hard wire a momentary dpdt switch in its place and then want to make up a control circuit board that works off both the switch and is also triggered from the transmission when it is put into DS / D mode. To do this I need to work out if there is a trigger signal from the transmission that I can use.

Cheers.

There has to be one. However, you would need the CANbus info to be able to do this.
It's all ballbearings nowadays....

Yeh that's what I was thinking, unless someone here knows the answer I might put it in the "too hard basket" and just use the switch to manually open/close the exhaust valve.

Cheers.

I think you are better off, unless you know a very talented programmer with vast knowledge of CANBUS and BMW.
I like the way you think though. What about at micro switch under the selector lever somewhere? Not sure there is room, but may be worth a look.
Good luck.
