Sneaky ECU Reset
 

Does anyone know if there is a way to reset the ECU so as to clear all the adaptive drive characteristics? I could do this in my e46 and my MB w209 but have yet to see how this is accomplished with the push button strt on an x5

This is what I said:

There are (at least) two different resets.

The 25 second reset (holding the throttle pedal down until the transmission beeps, ensuring that the engine is not running at the time) is to reset the transmission shifts, which learn your driving habits over time.

The 10 second reset (turning the ignition on, then off, 10 seconds each, then starting the engine) is to reset the adaptive throttle, which adapts to how aggressively you press the throttle.

Here's a more detailed description for the 10 second reset of throttle response:
1) Insert the key & push the start button. (Don't touch the brake pedal & don't remove the key at any time)
2) Press & hold the accelerator down for 10 seconds.
3) Without releasing the accelerator push the start button.
4) Release the accelerator.
5) Wait a full 2 minutes.
6) Start the car normally & drive to see if it's more responsive.

Some have reported that they do not see impact of 25 second reset. Haven't done for a while.

Thanks man! I've done the "25 second reset" a couple of times, but never got a beep. I've heard mixed things on that--the beep. I THOUGHT I noticed something but I'm not sure. I'll try that 10-second deal tomorrow. Happy holidays.
