Are these Blizzak LM-60's too worn down
 

May buy these used. Seller says they were only used for one winter.
Do they look a little worn down to you?

What's the tread depth?
Winter tires below 5/32 don't perform their best on snow, sleet covered roads.

The seller doesn't have a gauge. He sent me a couple more pics with a penny in the tread.
I'm hoping someone can't look at the pics and tell me if the tread depth is ok.

They are being sold at a used price, about $350. Worth it?

Take a penny and measure it with a tire gauge, the pic he provided shows it pretty well. I would guess he used the tire with the most tread.

You don't note where in "NY"...if you are driving around Buffalo/Rochester is very diff than driving around the surrounding counties of NYC, in my experience.
And, depending on how many miles you do in a 'winter', they may be a good deal to get you through one winter.

They have tread, at least for one normal 3-4 month season, imo.

I'm trying to decide whether I should buy these used ones cheap or bite the bullet and buy a new SAFE set.

Not sure what you mean...yes, a new set may be 'safer', and you will probably get at least 2 seasons out them, maybe 3, all dependent on how many miles you drive in 'your winter', and how many miles are driven on bare pavement. None of us can know your situ...

If I was looking for a one season set, of reasonable time length and miles, and wanted a deal, those seem to be good. But it is your decision.

So winter tires will only last about 3 seasons when bought new?
I do very little driving here near NYC, about 20 miles on weekends only. I don't foresee too much snow this winter and was hoping to wait til my new Dueler HP's wore down a little, get some Continue DWS's and call it a day.

I guess I should consider these tires tho.

In my previous experience of winters in Orange County NY and in driving all over metro NYC area/north Jersey, I usually got 3 seasons out of a set, though the third season was usually pushing it. But, it is really dependent on one's winter 'season' mileage obviously, and how much time/miles is spent zooming down the highways on bare pavement, which tends to wear those nicely siped winter tire tread designs.

If I was living in the City and only doing that small mileage on weekends, as your post suggests, I would take a Pasadena on that winter set, or any winter set; drive when it isn't a blizzard or iced over.
