When are you going to tackle yours, is it your first oil change in this vehicle?

And on the topic of easy maintenance, how often do you guys change your interior cabin air filters, and do you spring for the more expensive activated charcoal pair, or do you get the cheaper ones?

I know it is somewhat dependent on the type of driving you do and the environment the vehicle is driven in but BMW says 15,000 mi or once a year, just wondering what the general consensus is?

Thanks!

Two years for me. Only the activated carbon filter.

Oil change procedure for an e70 X5 4.8i V-8 engine is very similar to the e53 4.4 V-8 engine.

If memory serves me, there are two plugs in the same area. One belongs to the front transfer case.

Exactly. I want to make sure I am not going to drain the wrong one lol

Thank you for the walk through, I'm glad to hear it's pretty easy. Are the filter cap and the oil pan drain plug both behind plastic panels underneath the vehicle or are they exposed? And are they behind separate panels, or both behind one?

Sounds about like the E53 3.0 except the filter is underneath instead of up on top, and the filter cap has a drain.

Thanks again!

I don't think there are any panels on the E70 4.8 but honestly I can't remember. I have a E90 (has a panel), E46, E70, E36 and a F350 with a canister oil filter. After awhile they all look alike. It's rainingotherwise I might be persuaded to crawl up under the E70 for pictures.

The oil pan plug is on the bottom and the transfer case is on the side of the casing. ;)

That "transfer case" is actually a differential. The transfer case is back behind the transmission.
