Retrofit Electric fording mirrors?
I got my 40d yesterday (Love it!), full spec - panoramic sunroof and ACC (don't want to crash and have a leaky roof :)) Apart from that I quite literally have every option. So I was surprised to see that I did not have electric folding mirrors. I have them on all my cars, and all X5's in the past, and they were standard features before. What happened? They are essential in London, and manual folding is not an option. My dealer said they cannot retrofit them, but it is possible.
Any ideas how to do this? Thank you. |
I can't beleive BMW's have retired elect. folding mirror from the standard equipment list! if that's true this is a cheap shut.

They definitely haven't. Maybe this is a regional thing? In the US, I'm pretty sure it's standard equipment.
Here's info from the Standard Features of a 2013 X5 50i: Automatic-dimming rear-view and power-folding side-view mirrors. However, that line is lacking on the 35i standard features listing...interesting. Edit to add: looks like it starts to be standard on the 35i Premium models. I assume this is a regional thing, since the 40d isn't offered in the US. Edit 2: I just tried configuring a X5 40d on bmw.co.uk and holy jesus, that site is horrible. The bmwusa website is a million times better, and that one isn't even all that good. I feel sorry for you UKers! However, aside from the horrible site, I couldn't find any standard features listing, and didn't see anything about the power mirrors. However, it seems like the 50d is the default whenever you go to the X5 page...they're pushing that puppy hard. I'd like one :) |
Nope... just checked, no X5s in the UK come with electric mirrors as standard anymore... Very cheap! I wasn't even paying attension when ordering, as they are such a standard thing to have... Now I have to figure something out...
