Mr.X5_3.0si Checking in
hey all just purchased my second BMW
first one being a 05 325i that i've had for almost 4 yrs now and it's still going strong. http://img560.imageshack.us/img560/8800/img1685t.jpg the wife and i just purchased an 07 X5 3.0si has 150k km's on it so we purchased additional powertrain warranty, 3yrs or 60k km's for 2k got a good deal on the vehicle, 22k, so we couldn't resist hoping on that price. car has one previous owner, the guy was a Manager at a dealership out here who got rid of it for an X6 the X5 came with brand new tires, brakes, lubes topped up including oil the X5 came with Sports and Tech Package because i'm in Canada i didn't know the Sports Package didn't include the all so joyful Sports button :( the vehicle also came with 2 common E70 problems... peeling steering wheel and extremely warped top cover to the glove box.. the wife peeled the rest of the steering wheel and it actually looks a lot better for some reason, the glove box is being fixed by the dealer we bought it from out of good will everything else is immaculate, almost looks like it came straight off showroom from release date  the X5 will be my Wife's while i'll still be using the 3er has mine until i pick up an E60 M5 at the end of the year :D before i post some pics i did wanna say im super impressed with the power from the 6cyl 3.0L in this, after reading some reviews of it being underpowered i really thought it was going to be boring but i'm impressed. the 4.8L are hard to get out here and quite a bit more price so the wife did not go for it. this had way more options too then most we seen http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/9...rontdriver.jpg http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/1088/x5front1.jpg http://img43.imageshack.us/img43/6880/x5rear.jpg both cars in bed for the night *garage is messy i know, waiting for better weather to clean it out* http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/6788/bmws1.jpg so now that you've seen the pic's any recommendations? first thing we will be doing is replacing orange side markers (usually first i do on any car, just can't stand it haha) wife wants to do 20" rims.. not sure which kind yet tho but wants some that stand out some more. anyone bother putting in cold air intake to their X5? what kind of performance parts are worthy? it's kinda late so i forgot the important things i wanted to ask so i'll do so at another time plus this is super long already... also apologize for the essay but i'll keep updating this thread with pic's until we no longer own the vehicle |

Welcome...
20 inch rims, fender flares, and the BMW Aero kit would give that car a whole new look! I love the color, although i am impartial... |
Winter tires before any of the cosmetic changes. It will be your most significant performance and safety upgrade.
|
Looks great, white whit running boards are beautiful, you'll love the N52 inline six it is powerful enough while remaining frugal. My only recommendation after looking at your pics is to refresh your headlights lens, very easy almost costless DIY. Congrats and welcome.
|
These things are down to only 22k now eh? Definitely going to keep mine for good. ;)
I did the side markers and 20s. How often does it snow where you are because 20s should at the very least be on all-seasons. Stock 20s are on summers if you're looking to buy a used set from another owner (buyer beware). |
thanks for the warm welcome
as for snow, luckily we get maybe a week of it in december. our weather is predominately Rain.. anyone from Seattle, WA... our weather is pretty much the same our tires are brand new so i'll have to check if they are all seasons or summer, pretty sure they aren't winter. my plans were to keep the rims on it now strictly for winter and when the tires run low we can put winter tires on them for good just gotta find some 20's we like i've always been a fan of the deep dish look on bmw's but i'm not sure deep dish suits an SAV. anyone know which rims the member X5Snd has? i know they are OEM rims and i've seen them around town but my wife really liked them. almost look like M6 rims. http://i598.photobucket.com/albums/tt69/X5SND/Small.png also is everyone against chrome rims on here too? i'm on e46fanatics board and they will crucify you if you get chrome rims. i just want something clean but that stands out by looking at the pic's does my rims look like the 19" or 20" rims? my e46 has 19"s and these look bigger but it could just be because the tires are not low pro on the E70 *edit* i also seen some ppl can code the X5 to have mirrors fold with keyfob and auto tailgate. (was excited for this feature but always forget to use the button to fold them in) anyone know if i wanna spend some bucks if the dealer would do it? i had my e46 coded from a member on a board but i'm not sure if his stuff works for the E70's as well or if he know's the coding |
style 300 wheels from E70/71?

thanks  i like the double spoke style on these E70's possibly a noob question but when my bumper sensors are beeping my fog lights (if they are fogs) turn off on one side then the other switches off and vice versa  |
those fogs are acting as cornering lights...probably can be programmed off, not so sure though...
|
Man, that X5SND guy has some pretty sweet shoes....
First off, welcome to the forum! Nice clean looking X you got yourself there! As stated previously (and also in my sig) my wheels are the style 300M from the X6M, and are of course 20s. As far as recommendations/input for your E70....here's something I'd like to throw out there... If you're in the market for some new wheels.....I'd be looking at 22's for an E70. Heres why: For starters it's a bigger vehicle, and thus has larger wheel arches to fill. The 20's do ok, but 22's just have a more proportionate look about them....not to mention the serious road presence of a 295/335 set of rubber! Illustrating what I mean, heres a set of 22"modulare's. http://i598.photobucket.com/albums/t...ps4101cfdc.jpg Granted it has an advantage as its obviously been lowered (and those Modulare rims are some serious $$)....IMO the 20's get lost in the vehicle where as the 22's set everything off! |
^^ oh man that X5M is SWEET! Wheels go perfectly with it
|
didn't actually think 22's would fit nicely, would i need to do spacers to fit them?
22's would definitely open up more options on rims |

just thought i might have had an electrical issue there for a second would be nice to have them set as independent fogs however i'm starting to notice coding does wonders on the E70 |
Mr.X5_3.0si, the mirrors can indeed be coded to fold and unfold with the key, however the dealer will not do it.
TerminatorX5, the cornering lights (fogs) can be programmed off so they do not turn on when you turn. |

he said i would have to bring the vehicle in and they would look for me. was actually thinking they were gonna give me a straight forward NO. i'm going to see if the guy who coded my E46 can code the E70 to because i'm sure it would be way cheaper. as for fogs acting as cornering lights, they were also doing it when we were pulling straight into my garage too, is that normal? |
Maybe it is an electrical issue because it sounds like they are not behaving as expected.

thought they were working with the sensor system, curb assist it's called maybe because when the sensors beep at me i see the fogs going |
on my E90 the highbeams are acting as cornering lights... i did see an E70 that had fogs come on in daytime, the side next to the curb - if you are pulling into garage, the sides are detecting obstacles on both sides and both lights come on? as you are pulling in between the posts of the garage doors... just a thought...

i pulled the trigger on purchasing the cable
NEW BMW INPA / Ediabas K+DCAN USB Interface D-CAN CAN OBD OBD2 OBD016 | eBay going to try using BMW Coding Tool app with the software too, seems easier to learn would be cool if i could pick this up and help others |
my cable showed up today, not impressed with software being on a shitty burnt disc as the description and picture did not show this particular disc, oh well
http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/5664/img2060dl.jpg can't wait to copy software over to WinXP side of my mac and play around hope it's fairly easy to pick up on as i'm pretty good with comp software |
got the top half of the glove box replaced as it was severly warped
costed $200 but as part of our agreement on purchasing it the company reimbursed us for it also wasted money on front oem weather (rubber) floor mats, not impressed with the floor mat system at all, glad i didn't buy rear mats. costed $85 for fronts, rears would have been $65. front floor mats definitely do not cover the floor as good as my E46 OEM weather mats. also depise the velcro set up to hold the mats down. would way rather have E46 anchor plugs. may just sell these weather mats and go with the weathertech digital mats, they seem to cover the carpet very well and we got a lot of rain here so carpet is a no go and the small BMW mats may not cut it |
$85 is too much, i believe you can get them much cheaper...
also, i have the weathertech digital mats (with BMW logo) for the rears, and they are not snugged as advertised, just heads up... |

posted this in the what did you do to your vehicle thread today but thought i'd put it here as well to keep this up to date
just got my '07 3.0Si back i was having some delay with acceleration in lower RPM's they found the tranny sleeve seal leaking and oil filter housing gasket leaking looks like they replaced oil filter housing too??.. showing a price of $472 so i'm sure the gasket itself is not that price. replaced oil pan and filter, oil filter stand gasket so warranty covered that then of course there's more coolant hose was starting to dry rot along with the vent piping.. $160 they charged me for refilling anti-freeze.. $23 charged me for atf synthetic.. $59 charged me for windshield washer fluid.. $7 replaced left brake light blub... $4 after warranty i ended up paying $430.. not too impressed as i sent it in thinking everything would be covered by warranty was done at an Indy shop because of warranty we can't pick and chose where to have it repaired really to top it all off the driver who dropped the vehicle off forgot to return our key so i haven't even got to go out and test it, have to search for the spares now *EDIT* the guy came back and dropped the key off took it too the gym and back, seems to be fixed  now i wonder if i should still get a sprint booster |
