Burning DVDs
Hello all,
I've been searching but can't seem to get a solid answer... I'm trying to burn some movie files (.mkv and what-not) to DVD for the rear entertainment screen on my '08 X5. Does anyone have experience with doing the conversion/authoring for playback? I've tried a couple of ways and it keeps saying that it can't read the file format or some similiar message. I've read that the system can read MP4 files as well but I couldn't get that to work either... |
Have you tried burning a DVD disc image just to confirm it's a file type issue and not the discs you're using? (Some players are sticky about what type of disc you use for DVD's; Not sure if that's the case on the E70 though).

The DVDs are important. Read this page for more info on which ones to use.
I've been using the Taiyo Yuden's (the ones listed as second choice) for years in my BMW. My other types of DVD (e.g. DVD+R DL) are Verbatim (but you have to check where they are made). |
Make sure the disc is formatted as an ISO disc and not UDF
|
I agree completely with this, the Verbatim discs are by far the best, and I've never once had them NOT play in any type of player.
You can usually find a spool of them (like 100) at Sam's Club. I forgot what I paid for them last time, but they are not expensive at all. They have a Purple burning surface to them as well which is supposed to be the best, and I can attest that they do work better than any of the others out there... Quote:

Thanks all for the good info. One thing I'm still not getting... Do in need to author th disc like retail DVDs are made, or can the system read digital formats?

I tried to use DVD-R and DVD+R on and DL but never got it working in RSE DVD player or in the CIC internal DVD player.
On the other hand, the 8 DVD changer in the glovebox reads and plays everything I put in. I even tried upgrading the RSE DVD player but no success. Did anyone ever played an not original DVD in the RSE or CIC? |
sky-chicken,
Don't know what "RSE" is but, as far I know, you can only play CDs in the CD-player and only Navigation DVDs work in the Navigation DVD slot. |
RSE is for "Rear Seat Entertainment" system and is the monitor between the two front seats.
My 2009 X5 came with 6 or 8 DVD changer in the glovebox and I changed my CCC with navigation DVD to the CIC with hard drive. The Harddrive version has an DVD slot and you can play regular DVD's. The RSE has an DVD player underneath the monitor and it can play regal DVD's and CD's but not burned DVD's |
