valve cover gasket

Any info or writeup on a E70 3.0 valve cover gasket replacement? I've done the search but nothing returns. Only find was 2004 valve cover gasket and I know the engine is a bit different.

Mine shows slow oily goop seep around but no massive amounts have leaked yet. I'd like to do it myself but would prefer some insight on instructions, special tools or parts needed apart from the gasket.

Thanks!
I have a 2008 X5 3.0si with 90K miles.

I was bored so I figured I'd take a look. In about two minutes on Google I found the following thread. It took me longer to log in and respond than it took me to find it.

Good luck. I hope this helps you.

thanks coloexpat! not quite the same but i appreciate your efforts =)

No worries, I've never taken the time or effort to memorize the different motor numbers (ie M60, N62). If I look back at the first link I found I'm not entirely sure that was on point either.

I wish you all the best with you're efforts, my thinking would be the basics are essentially the same you'll just battle with the particulars of removing sh*t in the way to get to the valve covers.

What motor (number) does you're truck have? I have a lot of sleepless nights having a 7 month old son in the house. Maybe I can try to keep looking while the little guy is deciding if it's time to sleep or not.

hey Jeff! I hear ya about the little one. The motor is an n62. While I have found a few brief photo tutorials. it appears that they are laid out quite differently from the x5. The general gist is there and I feel pretty confident about doing it but it would be nice to have a tutorial on the e70 4.8 so i am not second guessing when i dive in.

thanks!
