RESOLVED-- Cylinder misfire?
 

My 2009 X5 has had 2 separate occasions of misfires during my less than 1 year of ownership. The symptom is always the same: at a complete stop with the truck in Drive and my foot's on the brake- I'll feel the truck jolt forward for a second (the RPM needle will bounce a little too) and then it will not do it again for a while. Eventually this happens enough times where the truck doesn't shift properly while I'm driving and then the CEL comes on.

Has anyone else experienced this before? Is this a common problem? What can be causing this?

I just got the X5 back from the dealership after they "fixed" 2 cylinder misfires- and the truck is still jolting at red lights. I have an appointment for this Thursday before my warranty expires so I'm trying to gather any extra info I can before "they look at it again".

I have 2 years of CPO but I'd rather solve this issue before I have to start paying deductibles.

what did they do to repair the misfires? i guess, you do not know the codes that they had pulled from the car? I had similar issue on E53, N62 engine... cylinder 5 was misfiring, creating some havoc in driving, power loss, uneven idle... pulled the codes - you have to read the codes and "between the lines", as sometimes one code is saying one thing but pointing to another...

mine were misfire cylinder 5, misfire on coil cylinder 5, misfire several cylinders... I got a bosch coil for $35, swapped it - issue is resolved...

i was worried that there were some other coils acting up, but nothing else...

I had the codes but was too lazy to find them and post them here.

I still had time on the factory warranty so I brought it back to the dealer. Luckily I could replicate the jolting feeling several times when I dropped it off.

Turns out 3 of my coils needed to be replaced.

Better yet the OP shouldnt be lazy and SHOULD post the codes they pulled.... to allow later readers to find a more complete solution.

I love people that ask for help, but cant pay anything forward.....

I misplaced the paper that my mechanic wrote the codes down. It's somewhere in my house. When I find them I'll post them.
