We're expecting!

Today is finally the day I go to pick up our new 2013 X5 xDrive 5.0i with M Sport, M Performance, Premium sound, Prem 2, Tech, Cold Weather and a few other options. It's Carbon Black.

We're moving from an Acura MDX that has been problem free since the very beginning so we'll be somewhat sad to see it go but it's time for some BMW freshness.

I found this forum during my research of the X5 and signed up for the Premier Membership to support the cause.

I can't wait to pick up our new ride!

Enjoy! I picked up my 35i M-Sport last week. Huge improvement over my 04 4.4, though the turbo engine misses the grunt that you will enjoy in the 50. I also got Carbon Black. Awesome color, but man, it shows dirt, so you need to keep that sucker clean!

Post some pics! I need to get mine cleaned before I get some pics--we've had crazy rain here since I picked up the beast.

Good luck!

LeMansX5 06-12-2013 10:42 AM

Congrats! Carbon black looks great.

TQ2K 06-12-2013 10:52 AM

Let the fun begin!

xoutpostking 06-12-2013 12:24 PM

I just picked up this past weekend my AW 35i M Power. Man I tell you after owning jet black and sapphire black, I can tell you AW is the easiest to show any sort of dirt. Looks amazing though.

Suge206 06-12-2013 01:15 PM

You'll be alternating trips every other day between the car wash and the gas station but you will be smiling the whole way.

AW shows dirt easily? The only dirt I typically see is on the clear/dark windows rather than the white body itself. Especially after landscapers are done with their leaf blowers tossing all kinds of crap into the air. :(

Suge206 06-12-2013 02:14 PM

No, white is the easiest to keep clean.

xoutpostking 06-12-2013 03:11 PM

Yes, any sort of dust is right away visible on AW. I used my back wipers when it was drizzling out yesterday, park the car and the back is blackened from the liquid dripped from the blade. On black you wont see minor dirt like that.

After this one, going back to black. I guess they were right when they say once you go black, you never go back. :yikes:

After two black, said no more. Look great when washed but I'm not too
regular with it. On Whites, easier than black but showed more dirt then I
would have thought. Had a white vette, and it really showed the dark
road debris, and if hit some oil or tar = mess. I've had the best luck with Red,
Biege/Silver and Gold. Really want some upkeep go with white interior.

Car_Girl 06-13-2013 12:01 AM

Thanks everyone! The car is amazing! Unfortunately, it's raining and has been since I drove her home from work today but it still looks great.

I got a super surprise when I went to sign papers today. The interest rate was 1.9% and not 3.05% which they had told me a few days ago. Cool huh?

Pics will be posted after she gets a bath. Judging by the storm we have going on tonight, might be a couple days.

Congrats to the others who replied to my OP and have recently picked up a new ride. I share in your enthusiasm!

Well, the iPhone 5 doesn't have the best camera quality but at least I was able to snap a quick one before it started raining yesterday. It rained all last night so I won't be taking any new photos of the outside of the car today.

I can't wait to hop in and head to work! Only because of the fun to drive and not because I have to work. :D

Have a good one everybody!

Car_Girl 06-13-2013 06:17 AM

Now after seeing the photo, I think I need to order the black kidney grilles and the white reflective or the matching painted side markers. Yellow markers really jump out. Which do you think would look better?

rangerfan 06-13-2013 11:13 AM

My new ride is getting a bra today so I can't take any pics, but the black grill on carbon black looks better imho. The side markers do jump out, though I have to say, I haven't noticed mine in the 1st week.

yes, its begging for the performance grill, cheapest I saw from online BMW dealer is $120...

and for the painted side markers, I highly recommend IND performance, a bit steep for $75 but well worth it, I just installed mine the other and im one satisfied customer...

one last thing I would recommend is 20mm spacers at the back and that's it...

enjoy!!! let the modding begin!!!

No. White is midway there.
Grey/silver and beige are easiest. Had a silver car with grey interior. Wouldn't vacuum or wash it for weeks and looked fine.

Now have alpine white 35d with black carpeting. Every little piece of dirt is highly visible on carpet. But when you dont see anything - you know it must be clean.

On the outside, dust first shows up on my tinted windows and plastic trim before I see it on white paint.

Car_Girl 06-13-2013 07:28 PM

Thanks for the suggestion for the side markers and the spacers. I'll have to watch the forum marketplace for other items to jump on. I missed the 21" wheels someone had posted a while ago. I love the looks of those. The ride, I'm not sure if I'd like but I'd have a lot of fun trying it out!

330i ZHP 06-14-2013 10:05 AM

congrats - nice car, it will def have more soul and "fun to drive" than the Acura

I love my Carbon black

Suge206 06-14-2013 02:08 PM

Looks good. black grill and some spacers and your cooking with gas.

The black carpet does show everything.

M3Inline6 06-14-2013 02:16 PM

Welcome to the club. I, too, just picked up a '13 AW M-Sport X5 35i with the M Performance Software package. Loving it!

I was going to say spacers too. The mudflaps make it look too far in otherwise.

20mm fr and rear

I went 12mm front, 20mm rear for stock offset wheels. Your M looks a bit better with a larger spacer up front because you have a front bumper with much better proportions. Your ride is sweet, and it's one of the cleanest X5M's that I've seen.

330i ZHP 06-14-2013 09:28 PM

thank you - you are on e46fan with the same screenname?

Car_Girl 06-14-2013 10:03 PM

Thanks for the compliments! This car has more soul than the Acura for sure but I'll tell ya what... the Acura was an amazing care for the money. It handled quite well around tight turns going a decent speed and the interior was laid out in an ergonomically pleasing way for people of just about any size. The back seats were also comfortable and they felt a lot like the front seats. I'm still gonna miss that car, but I'm already have a great time with the new ride.

Does anyone know if the painted side markers are different sizes based on whether or not the vehicle has side cameras? The markers look a little shorter on my car than in the photo of the side markers on the site that was recommended earlier in this thread. I'm hesitant to order but I really dislike the yellow markers. They're bugging me now. My M3 had white reflectors as I opted to go with the white but they weren't shaped 100% to form so condensation got under one of them. It was too annoying for me to risk having the same thing happen again so I'm going with painted markers if I can find the right size for my car which has the side cams.

I'm not on E46 with same screen name but I've been on M3post and about 6 or 8 other forums with the same screen name. I might have posted in the E46 area previously but it wasn't because I had an E46. :)

I am sorry - I meant M3inline6

You can go on realoem to look at the part numbers for the reflectors

or give us the last 7 digits of your vin and one of us can help

Yeah, I'm a long time member and moderator on E46 Fanatics, as well as the Ducati forums.

X5X 06-15-2013 07:10 AM

Congrats!

Try keeping my X clean :p I clean it almost everyday! Black is without question the hardest colour to keep clean and stay looking good. Also the hardest look to pull off if done right :p

White is easy... IMO the easiest colour to maintain.

We had an 02 MDX and then an 08 MDX - reliable (but boring to drive) cars. Our 11 X5 5.0 with AD is SOOOO much more fun, and IMO, is simply a better (overall) car. I also just bought a 13 Touareg TDI which is also more fun and (overall) a much better car than the MDX.

I agree about the spacers and I'm preparing to order a few things this weekend. Where did you get your spacers from?

I found a site that can do the painted side markers for the markers with the side cams but they don't stock the Carbon Black.

Consequently, do any of you folks have favorite sites to visit when you *need* to order parts for the E70? Some sites don't seem to be set up as well as others so I'm not so sure of their reputation which makes me a little hesitant to place orders with them. Suggestions would be much appreciated - thanks!

I ordered mine through EAS, a local BMW tuner shop. You can also get them through MRF, Turner Motorsport and a few other places. If you're in SoCal, EAS and MRF are the places to go to have work done. Painted reflectors are used sourced from IND, and I ordered mine from IND through EAS. They will paint them when the order is placed. It takes about a week to receive.

Car_Girl 06-16-2013 12:15 PM

Thanks for the suggestions! I wish I were in SoCal. There are a lot of reputable tuners out there. Not so many back here in SE MI even though we're The Motor City.

I'm going to go check out those sites now! (The girl is going SHOPPING!)

I'm also going to look for engine performance curves (hp and torque) for the 5.0i with M Performance. I'm curious how this pkg compares against the stock 5.0i. The torque on this car is amazing and I can't wait until the break in period has passed. Just giving the car 1/2 to 2/3 throttle sets me back in my seat. Although I'm not so impressed by the 10.2 mpg I'm getting at the moment. (I have a good deal of stop and go traffice on my commute if I leave at the wrong time of day. Time of day might have to change for me to avoid such low figures.)

Hehe! It's a brand new engine with a tight drive-train so I don't expect to see the car's true mpg once it's broken in. OTOH, once it is broken in, I might be more inclined to use the car the way it was designed to be used! BMWs are made to be driven, right?

Today, I clocked 14.4mpg with some freeway but driving in 85-90 degree temps. I put about 200 miles on the car so far so this mpg reading isn't disturbing but I'll be watching it closely over the next several months just to see whether or not it changes much as the system goes through the break-in cycle.

I'm going to predict that I'll average somewhere around 15mpg when all is said and done but that's yet to be seen. I know one thing - I'm gonna have a blast owning this beast. :D

Car_Girl 06-22-2013 11:34 PM

MPGs today hit 15.1 with mostly freeway driving at around 70-80mph. Not bad for a new vehicle and only about 500 miles on it. Dang, this baby just BEGS to be driven fast. I gotta watch my speed.

I'm having a tough time finding reasonably priced spacers though. I figure I'll have 'em ready this fall when I put the winter shoes on so I'm in no rush but wow, I can't believe how much some of these companies want for 'em.

You've had quite a car collection! I thought the MDX wasn't 'boring' to drive, but it's no M, that's for sure. We had a 2011 E93 at the same time so when I wanted an extra go-buggy, I'd that it out. The Acura took sharp turns quickly without as much body roll as the E70 seems to have, but it could just be the run-flats and also the air-bag suspension. The Acura was more nimble in general around the roundie-round (roundabouts). But, the E70 is stout and I love everything about it except getting out of the car. I'm 5'0" and at my height, it's quite a drop to reach the ground getting out so I have to take extra care not to rub my black dress pants on the rocker panel every time I get out. Winter is gonna be a bit tricky with salt on our roads.

So what made you think of getting a Touareg? Is it a hybrid?

Your mpg will improve but not by much. My '10 with what was then called the performance package averaged 11.8 with my daily hwy/city commute. I would get close to 17 mpg on road trips. I too have that problem with my right foot. :D Congrats and enjoy your ride. And don't forget to keep the windows open so you can hear that awesome growl. It beats any tunes you can listen to.

That's just the cost unfortunately. Look to pay about $200 for front and rear spacers WITH bolts. I did a 90mm stud conversion on my X5 instead of bolts. I'll be posting pics next week. I'm doing an X5M front bumper conversion in the next month.

I'm actually getting better mileage on the ///M. At least I'm in the 12s. Can't figure that one out. :dunno:

M3Inline6 - I figured it wasn't going to be inexpensive to mod the car. Thanks for your feedback and good luck with the bumper mod. Can't wait to see pics!
