Anyone Use Spray-on 3M Removable Paint Defender?

Thinking of some additional protection for road trip. Does it work?
The kit is $45 at Amazon

I saw an advertisement in my motor trend about this and it raised my interest. I was going to use it as a stone/rock guard on my lower quarter panel but $45??? Thats steep. I think Plasti Dip also makes something similar and doesnt cost $45 a can.

Subscribed. I would also like to know.

Wow that is awesome... Lasts up to a year. I will be trying this for my next road trip... I think it would be great on the lower1/4 panels and of course the hood/ bumper

Looking forward to hearing other members experience with this

I was reading a few threads on other forums created by people that have tried it - so far things sound good.

I am def interested - I could do the (already chipped) lower areas on the ///M

Hmmm....due to outrageous airfares we may drive one of our vehicles to MD in July for two weeks vs flying....hate how that trip always ends up "leaving it's mark" on our cars...may try this and see as it seems like cheap insurance....just hope I can do a nice enough install and not want to rip it off early!

im still a fan of the invisible bra for the car

The bra film is great, but on my AW X5 it's definitely yellowing over time, and to do the whole front end (entire hood, fenders, bumper) is costly. I know with darker colors the film is much less visible, and for my wife's Odyssey I wasn't up for spending $1,500 to wrap it - mostly due to it being a lease - even though the chips in it make me NUTS! I look at this as a cheaper potential short term, road-trip solution.....long term the clear film is much better/thicker. Someone with an M-sport pack should try this and see if it works on all the flares and rockers!

Subscribed as well.

I just heard about this and I'm interested to know if it's durable enough for the use.

I just had the 3M protection film in 8 mil size added to the front hood line, front bumper, fender flares and rocker panel. It's quite pricey and I hope it holds up as I expect it to. It's only been 3 days so time will tell!

i have mine professionally installed on bonnet and doors. you still need to wax them occasionally to prevent from yellowing, bird drop acid can also etch into the plastic. this is only stone chip guard.
dont expect to remove it once you have put it on (unless ofcourse there is a damage), as it will remove the waxes on the original panel.

Are you talking about 3M Paint defender product or 3M PPF film(usually professionally installed)?

Ive had the 3M invisible bra installed on my GL350 for over a year now and its been on quite a few 1000+ mile road trips and put on over 35k miles in one year and COVERED in bugs and it comes right off. and not a single rock chip as the bra is quite thick but hardly noticeable and its on a white GL. it covers the whole front bumper, the side mirrors as well as 1/3 of the hood and cost around $600 installed. A bit but definitely a great investment!! going on my X5 as well as soon as I pick it up.

Yeah, I think many people are confusing the two.

Changed the title to be more specific.

We are talking about the spray-on paint defender in this thread.
