New to forum. Acquired '08 4.8

Just wanted to "introduce" myself and "new" X5 to the forum. I am new to the X5, but not new to BMW's I have owned one or more BMW's for the past 25+ years. Furthermore, I consider myself an advance BMW DIY'er. So, I hope I can contribute beneficially to the forum. My current BMW's are: '80 633CSi (E24) , '00 323i (E46), '98 740iL (E38), '04 545i (E60), and '08 X5 4.8i (E70).

I recently acquired the X5 via a straight-up trade for my '06 760Li (E66) with the local BMW dealer. The specs of the X5 are:

65k miles, 4.8i, white on tan (tired of dark cars in Texas heat), premium package, technology package, comfort access, rear DVD entertainment, Satellite, Navigation, Sport, rear HVAC, winter package, ventilated/massaging comfort seats, 3rd row seating. I might have left something out, but you get the idea, well appointed.

I also plan to sell my current tow vehicle ('02 Suburban) and thus will be using the X5 to tow my boat after I install the OE hitch.

Congrats and welcome. FYI: the e70 has a lot more electronics and tech in it than your current vehicles--some of the DIY projects are a little more complicated which have to go to the dealer (software updates etc).

Thanks. The E70 is seemingly very similar to my E60. Engine, electronics, etc. Also, I do my own diagnostic and coding/programming work with BMW software tools. I cut my teeth on my '98 740iL (forgot to list above, since edited). I was the first (in the USA anyway) to figure out how to integrate BMW Bluetooth into the E38 when BMW said it could not be done.

welcome. feel free to share any DIY projects you end up doing with the E70.

I was driving an '00 E46 that I did alot of DIY work on too before moving on my current E70.

You will love towing with it. I tow my track car a couple times a year and it does a great job.
Welcome.

Hey David! Welcome! I think I remember you from Bimmerboard. I used to have an Imola red 740 short sport. I believe we met in Atlanta once when telephone bluetooth first started. Looking forward to your contributions on this board.

Yes sir, that is me. I still have my E38 (gave it to one of my sons). The Bluetooth retrofit into the E38 is still going strong all these years later. I was excited to get the V12 E66, but the excitement only lasted 4-5 months. The E66 simply did not push the right buttons for me as it really felt big, heavy, and made me feel more like an older person (older than my current 50 yrs!). What really told me it was time to get ride of the 7 was when I would drive the '04 545i and thought it felt like a go-kart compared to the 7. I found myself opting for the 5 over the 7. Consequently, the 7 would sit sometimes for a week at a time. But, on the highway, it was king.

To all others, thank you for the welcome. I hope I can contribute in a positive way.
