License Plate Light Issue
 

My right plate light went out a couple weeks ago…. replaced both lights with Weisslicht LEDs, worked great for a week….now same side, right light went out again.

I had a full Hamann performance kit installed front & rear with a lot of additional custom body work including the rear bumper so my thought is this could be a wire issue that occurred during that mod? getting stretched or pinched or rubbed?

through my research on here i uncovered the RT plate light is tied into the trailer hitch wiring for brake lights… When I had the Hamann kit installed & rear bumper body work done, i also had my tow hitch removed and wiring for it tied up. Now I am convinced it is related.

But how do I actually diagnose the issue to locate what is needed to resolve??

the connection is off between where they meet, the "light" with the "plug in cord". I changed to Weisslicht too. What I did was put a wire around inside before plugging in, so now its on all the time.

Thanks for egisx5 - not sure what you mean by "put a wire around inside" what/where did you put a wire around? what kind of wire?

It has been on now since the post….i took the assembly out and when i jiggled it, it would go on/off so seems the connection might be loose somewhere.

the light plugs into a wire that comes out with the old light, the one that you unplug the old light and it hangs there until you plug the new one in and push it in. If you look there are 2 little screws inside, I wrapped metal wire INSIDE the plug around the screws and wrapped the other end to inside of the Weisslicht light and then connected it, so that there is a connection between the two even if they "jiggle" off while you drive, they dont turn off. lol does it make sense?
