Oil leak?
I have oil on my driveway. A considerable amount actually. I don't remember seeing this particular leak posted here. Apparently there is an O-ring next to / behind the alternator bracket on the lower RF of the block. My Indie has quoted me 12 hours labor. Yeehaw.....
Anyone here heard of this one before? :dunno: |
Yep .... mine is in now for the same thing. Original quote was 9.4 hours. Since I also had an oil leak behind the timing chain cover they negotiated a lower hourly charge.

Finally got this fixed.
$20 parts $1050 labor. Had I gone to the dealer the price would have been closer to $1800. Word has it that the dealer is seeing more of these repairs as the 2007 / 2008 models age into the repair. Gaskets are plastic and they become brittle over time. My Indie suggested I sell the truck before it reaches 200K miles since I am likely to see this issue again in another 100K or so. |
How many miles on it when the leak showed up?
|
Is this strictly on the 4.8 again, kind like the V8 valley coolant leak?
|
120 k miles. 4.8 block only I believe.
|
Does anyone know if this can be done without dropping the sub frame?

I had this same issue at 54,000 miles. BMW ended up covering the repair which had been estimated at $2100. I recommend asking your service advisor to check with BMW.
