I'm Back

I havent been on this site much since getting a lot of great ideas for my E53 back in 2008 (i have a 2005 X5 that I get compliments on regularly). I just got a 2011 E70 50i and I'm hoping to make a few nice mods to enhance its appearance/performance. if anyone has any ideas i'm all ears!

rh71 01-03-2014 10:22 PM

that's a good shade of tint for that blue - is it 35%? Other than maybe spacers to give it an even more aggressive stance, maybe the LCI aero kit.

im not sure exactly what tint was used. i asked the install tech to match the front windows to the back. thx for the ideas. the aero kit on your x5 looks sick!

EuroTra$H 01-04-2014 09:51 PM

BMW Performance kidneys and painted reflectors will really clean up the look
both are great looking X5's
Spacers and perhaps a drop? if you want a more aggressive look

all fairly inexpensive mods that will make a big difference IMO

thx euro! im going to look into spacers and the performance grill.

texvette 01-05-2014 12:39 PM

when you see them side by side, the older ones are the size of
an X3. The LCI X5 and F15 have a nice stance. Especially with
20"s

Vincenzo Veyron 01-05-2014 08:41 PM

so far i'm going with the lci aero kit painted black, performance kidneys, spacers and painted reflectors. also thinking about a dinan stage 2 tune. any other ideas welcome. thx!

rh71 01-07-2014 09:19 PM

that's monaco blue right? Are you sure you want to make the aero kit a different color?

its actually platinum grey. i forgot to mention that i am going to swap the wheels from the 2005 x onto the 2011 after i have them powder coated black. i think the black aero kit might look nice with the black performance kidneys, the tinted windows and black rims. can you see it?

rh71 01-09-2014 09:03 PM

^ the hub bore of the E53 is 72.56mm isn't it? Would probably need an adapter to get those to fit on an E70 at 74.1mm now.

Personally I think a black aero kit would not look that much better given you already have the black trim on the bottom already.

thx for the hub bore info. i wasnt aware of the difference. im torn on the aero kit. on the one hand im sure it would look fine if i matched it to the color of the car but on the other hand it would look just like everyone elses.

maybe i'll have it painted black initially and can always re paint if it doesnt work out.

Please post pics! I've been searching for other PG e70's to get inspiration.
I'm in the same phase right now. While I didn't get a 50i I joined the diesel crew with a 2011 X35d. So far I've added TSW nurburgring 22" Gunmetal finish. Next on the list will be 1) JBD 2) Grill & spacers 3) Kit or molding color match.

Is it possible to do a wrap on the moldings? So you can go back if you don't like it?

i'll continue to post pics of any mods i make. my wife isnt a big fan of the aero kit so i might not do it and i think the ferric gray wheels look ok so im not going to coat the wheels black. i probably wont change the grill either since im not doing the wheels. only thing left for me are the weisslicht angel eye upgrade, painted reflectors, dinan stage 2 and spacers. which spacers are you going to use?

I feel the same way about my rims, I think the gunmetal goes is nice with the PG although it's not the same as going all black. It thought about going this route (see pics). It's clean and a nice contrast I don't know if I would do the same rims though but thought it's another way to go with the PG. Spacers after going through the threads looking to go 15mm and 20mm (E70 Spacers - Page 3). Based on what I've read most likely will go with the H&R, but still doing research on ECS. What are your plans or what info have you found on the forums.

Is there a reason your are going weisslight and no LUX v4?

Vincenzo Veyron 01-20-2014 10:41 PM

i picked up a set of hyper black 215's today. had to retire the ferric gray 215s due to damage. the black kidney grills and wheels should look nice. id post pics if i had the car in my possession. unfortunately its being serviced for a "engine malfunction. reduced power" incident. i hope i don't regret the e70 purchase. my 2005 e53 4.4i still drives like a dream. not one engine problem in almost 10 years.

Vincenzo Veyron 01-22-2014 09:42 PM

if you get an "engine malfunction. power reduced" error and you are a hard core driver (ie high acceleration and speed) the fix is likely a replacement of all 8 fuel injectors, coils and spark plugs. no idea if that fixes the problem but thats what they are doing. i guess i'll find out tomorrow when shes is ready and i take her for a spin.

Vincenzo Veyron 01-25-2014 01:01 AM

so the "engine malfunction" episode is over. they replaced all of the fuel injectors and spark plugs. its like driving a different car. i thought it was pretty awesome before i got the em light but now, wow, this thing is a beast! what a cool new play toy. after i picked her up i took her out on a tour of LA. drove up the PCH to sunset and headed over to hollywood. what an amazing experience.

Looks good! I'll post pics up as well after getting a wash in this weekend. Did you debate the gloss black vs matte black grill at all?

i just ordered my JBD and planning on the reflectors next week.

Nice work!

thx guys. final thing i'm looking into is an engine tune for the e70. dinan seems over priced.

I got the ESS tune for the E70. Its well worth the $1,600. You can definitely feel the improvement in acceleration. If anyone is one the fence and is a fellow speed junky I highly suggest you try it.

thx for the kind words re: the car. there is always a lot of traffic in LA. the only way to avoid it is to drive between 3-5am. i prefer to sleep.

I just watched the video again - our trucks are too quiet..lol

but really what bugged me (and it is a problem everywhere I have traveled) was the people driving in the left lane (not the far left HOV lane) that are going slower or the same speed as the "slow" lanes
