New Idrive head unit

Hi,
I have a 2007 bmw x5 3.0
My I drive went out. no sound, alerts, etc. its non nav
took it in to the dealership and my SA said that I need to get my head unit replaced and they gave me a estimate.
I want to see if I can find the part cheaper online as long as its oem.
Does anyone know of a website that sells the head unit for the Idrive?
Thanks in advance

You can find one on Ebay in the $600-800 range.

This company says they fix them.

Going to the dealer past warranty not a good idea. All they do is mindlessly replace parts hoping to nail the root cause. It can be expensive. Should at least try to get it repaired, I am sure there are shops that know what they are doing..

Agree, unless you can get the part to repair cheap, consider an upgrade.

OP- did you get a part number? Sometimes Ive seen "It's a new head unit- $4000"...only tossed out to see if you are stupid. Then once you agree, they actually figure out what is really wrong.

Hi
I didn't get the part number but it may benon the invoice. The price for new head unit with upgrade is $1450 at the dealership.
I am expecting a email or phone call from the SA who was working with me on Monday.
could it be just the system needs reprogrammed or a upgrade?

Checking the fuses, finding independent shop, sending the unit for repair are all solutions that will cost way less than this estimate.

thanks! I am calling around to other reputable shops in the area.

Check out www.circlebmwparts.com. They had the best prices around, even besting my BMWCCA discount, when I purchased some accessories for my recently acquired 2012 X50i.

Good luck!
