Right two-stage brake lamp Warning

1 Attachment(s)
I have the warning message "Right two-stage brake lamp" for the past 3 months on my 2008 3.0si X5. All the brake lights look like it's working fine so I'm sorta clueless as to what this could be. I've tried searching but cannot find much info regarding this issue. I am hoping someone on this forum can help and shed some light. Thank you.

This would be the fog lights or second stage brake lights on the trunk.....

Do you know where I can find the second stage brake lights in the trunk? All the lights seems to come on fine when the brake pedal is depressed.

The second stage won't come on unless the ABS is engaged while braking. There are little access panels on the trunk hatch to access the bulbs

Nice timing on this thread! I too have the exact same error. I will check out those bulbs and see what happens.

At least now I know that it's nothing major that I have to worry about..

Thanks!

Anyone resolve this?

I've got the error for both sides.

Did replacing the bulbs work? A whole new assembly? Just a part of the assembly?

I'm not totally worried about it since the brake lights do work when the brake is depressed, and the car passed inspection.

Just trying to figure out the cost to get rid of the dashboard message.

Ha! I guess mine is "fixed"... The error message went away all on it's own even though I didn't do anything. But... every once in awhile my driver side headlight goes out. And then I get an even bigger error! And then the headlight comes back on again..

And then.... when both headlights come on "automatically" at night time, the driver's side fog light comes one (and it shouldn't). Which then makes it look like the passenger side fog light is out. So then I have to just physically turn the headlight knob to on and then all is well and the fog's stay off.

I kind of feel like I'm playing "Whack-A-Mole" with these electric gremlins! :)

Clinto - sounds like you might have a problem with some sensor tied to the adaptive headlights (assuming you have these) or wheel position sensor as it sounds like your X thinks it's making a left turn and turns on the cornering light (fog light). Make sure the wheel is straight when you start up the X and see if it still does this....that and a lose connection somewhere or faulty ballast could be setting the whole system off.

E-cellent Information!!

I'll give that a try and see how it works. Thanks a lot!
