Cobb stage 2 35xdrive build thread.
I'm running a Cobb on my n55 x5
Just out an ER downpipe on, and I. Stage 2 I'm getting the same boost as stage 1 which is about 9.5. Cobb said both the maps are the same just stage 2 has DTCs off so no CEL comes on for the downpipe. Since these off the shelf maps are really for the e9x/e8x platforms, and the e7x has a considerably larger intercooler, I decided today to load up the stag 2+FMIC map. Guys, holy :wow: 17 PSI and loving it. With my bms intake this thing is howling and the downpipe sounds awesome. I came from a 335 with jb4 (but I did switch to Cobb for a short while) and I had an FMIC and Downpipes so on Cobb I never tried the non +FMIC maps. On the n54 with jb4, you got more boost with map 2 which is for downpipes then map 1.......but on Cobb on the x5 n55 it seems to not be the case. I never tried anything but map 2 aggressive +FMIC on Cobb on my 335 so I do not know the behavior. I'm just puzzled as why anyone would install a downpipe for stage 2 if the Cobb tune isn't going to give anymore boost. Yes I know. I'm prob the only x5 35xdrive owner with a downpipe I beat a e90 jb4 335 map1 and a f30 328 jb4 map 1 in a pull tonight. |
any EGTs?
|
I was considering flashing my ECU with the Cobb but when I emailed Cobb, they said that they were no longer supporting the x70 N55 platform. Were you able to arrange for them to make a special map for you, or are you using 335 n55 maps?

they basically made sure i wasnt getting any throttle closure as i was with the normal map. they only support N55 till some 2011s i believe |
Thanks!
Anybody else using Cobb? |

this is the full exhaust mod i did.
i relocated the valve to the midpipe. https://scontent-b-lga.xx.fbcdn.net/...c2&oe=533BC29F the sound you are hearing in the video is with the valve closed only the downpipe since it only opens above 3000RPM or in drive at full throttle |

also the ER charge pipe works too (going by oem part number, its next on my list) took alot of looking at pictures on the internet comparing all N55 versions, and studying realoem.com cross referencing part numbers, BMS said the intake worked, but ER and modbargains would guarantee the downpipe, but i was fairly certain. if anyone wants to know anything about what is compatible between e9x,e8x,e60,e89,e70.e71,f10,f12...... i know WAAAY TOO MUCH now. |

So now that you've confirmed fitment, is ER going to update their site? |

its very mild. its really just like +2-3 PSI. cobb running the +FMIC map (i explain why im using it even without FMIC in first post) im gettign +10psi. might as well go 100% right? haha. this thing sounds crazy as hell when the flap opens with the DP. with my relocated flap....its unreal. mothers grab their kids for dear life on the sidewalk when i roll by. but no drone since the flap closes below 3000 RPM. id get a sound clip but it wouldnt do justice, i need to do a drive by video one day |
To relocate the flap, did you install a y-pipe?

Very interesting. That's actually a great idea whoever thought of that!
I installed a ypipe and Dougs electric cutout valve on my 335 so I could open/close it with a switch but this is a very cool idea too. |

straight piped the valve side but left the valve in, and through jb4 i could open and close it, or it would open the same way this does, WOT of above 3000RPM, and added some bug tips of course |
Jyohay,
Excellent build!! I just installed the Cobb.. still going through adaptation on the Stage I map.. seems to be better daily! Will try the +FMIC when no more improvement is noted. Thanks for your help! Any plans to dyno the RaceTruk? :) |

check your logs and just make sure TPS% isnt getting cut at max boost (which mine was). id go straight for +FMIC maps, you will know immediately if your truck doesn't like it. as ive said the OEM FMIC is alot bigger on these. i do plan on dynoing sometime. i am thinking about getting protuned for e85..... but i just hear myself in the back of my head "get the x5 over the f10 535, that way you wont want to mod it like the 335"...... LOL |
I have a Cobb v2 for sale for $650 shipped.
Just got a V3. If anyone is interested let me know. You are responsible for checking if it works wth your n55 x5 |

My initial impression of the tune was disappointing but after some adaptation, I can now feel the difference. I also did a reset of the transmission adaptation which also made a difference. Now, I can't wait to try the +FMIC maps. Have you noticed your average MPG drop? Mine did, but I think it's because I'm on the throttle more now. ;) |

only 2 setting no throttle and WOT haha. its def bc of beign throttle happy, since your getting stock peak boost at half throttle, you actually should have BETTER MPG at cruising speed since the engine is working more efficiently. |

What I'm really impressed about is how smooth the throttle is now. Before, I always feathered the pedal because the engine and the transmission were trying to decide which gear to use, especially from a complete or near stop. Now you just step and it goes in whichever gear its in. And this is just in D mode. I tried DS yesterday, and that's when you really feel the difference the tune makes. |

just read i need to have my custom v2 maps converted for my V3. good thing i didnt sell the v2 yet |

any updates on engine mods on the X5? do you still have the ER catless downpipes? any CEL? |
ER 4" VS VRSF 3.5" with Cobb AP, do you think it makes different by 0.5"? Which year I should pick from ER if I wanna go with that route?
