D-pillar trim rattle
Hi guys,
Wondering if anyone can help me. I've had numerous rattles coming from the rear, fixed some, but there is a plastic vent cover closer to the d-piller (under the side glasses at the rear. This is the cover that's got the vent holes). Just wondering how to remove the d pillar trims and this plastic vent covers so I can fix the source of the rattle. Is it just a matter of pulling the d pillar trims? Just worried about breaking any clips. To be more precise, the issue is SI B51 09 09 |
Look on ebay for butyl rubber sound deadening, I think I purchased 10 square feet of Onyx brand for 40 bucks. Cut strips and stick on the back side of interier panels to add mass. I did this to my X5 and pillar rattles are gone. The sound quality of the Top HIFI Sound system in mine improved significantely, it was very good to begin with.... The interior panels have a thud now instead of a ting... if that makes sense.

Is this the source of the dreadful creaks and rattles from the rear hatch area? I've had my car back twice to BMW and they make it worse each time. I had seen the SIB but they still won't do what it recommends.

This is one of the main rattles which is described in SI B51 09 09
i was able to remove all the trims over the last two days and apply felt tapes, refer to image as an example. Ive had this car for the past 5 years, and i knew where the noises are coming from but was afraid to pull the trims apart. its actually very easy once you do one side. I have already fixed the rattles from other trims from which were apperent since day-1. I do not reccomend taking the car to the dealer to fix these things (i have done it many times), its your car and if you have time you can do a much better job than the dealers. make sure you have enough felt-tape (thin single-sided cloth tapes), and some dry lubes, follow the links starting by taking the rear seat side sections off. there is a nasty clip, you just have to pull it, ensure to put some dry lube before fixing it. |
