2012 50i oil leak
 

For the last 6 months the X has been in and out of the dealer for an oil leak. In august they replace several oil hoses that had fixed the problem for two months. Last month they replaced the turbos and the leak continues albeit at a slower rate. I searched the forums and it seem my sitz may be unique. Any guidance?

My warranty is up in 5 k miles.

With the recent batch of cold weather in the northeast I've been seeing the dreaded battery discharge warning. The dealer blames it on our driving habits. I am worried. Considering flipping it for a similar CPO or new F15. It's not what i originally planned to do. :dunno:

Tell them to fix it. Driving habits should not stop the car

If they can't get it fixed, flip it. Make sure the new car comes with warranty, so they don't get over on you.

My preference is the get it fixed and keep it. It's a sweet ride. I'd like to see what other owners have done to fix these problems.

??? Since you have been having so much trouble and they seemed
to be stumped on how to fix. Even if warranty runs out seems
BMW would still be on the hook for the issue.

On the 3 series getting the same BS from the dealer on a weak
battery. We don't drive far enough to get it charged. Well we
live close to all need to do. Not going too just drive in circles to
get their desired mileage figure. Sure the X is going to find a
similar issue.

Contact BMW North America , have your dealer know you contacted them and bring your X back to dealer telling them to keep it until they find the problem. Have them commit in writing that if this problem is not fixed before your warranty runs out that they will still work on this problem under warranty.
But for a 2012 , I would insist they keep it until they fix and TEST to make sure everything is fixed.

Have you tried another dealer?

The bigger question is if I should keep it without a maintenance plan and warranty.

I wouldn't flip it for the F15 yet. Just walking into a new set of issues until they fully debug it.

I would ask BMW to extend your warranty on the engine since they haven't fixed it. Believe it or not, BMW has been decent to me when I involved the right people (service manager).

I really struggle with owning BMWs over 50K without warranty coverage. Mike Miller in Roundel recommends getting the warranties due to the high cost of repairs. The type of work they are doing on your X is not cheap.

Note I generally NEVER buy extended warranties.
