DashCam catching the action

On Weds i was t-boned by a lady running a stop sign in Brooklyn NY.
Dash cam caught everything. The lady who hit me was constantly saying i came from nowhere the whole time before the police arrived. I told her she ran the stop sign and she and her friends kept denying she did...... Showed the video to the officers and they were totally impressed by the video and agreed that she ran the stop sign. Officers wanted to show the video to the lady, and the lady started to say i was driving so fast....i quickly replied i was going 30mph as stated by the gps speed on the video. Her husband started yelling at her in spanish and told her not to look at it anymore........definitely get one of these installed in your cars guys. I have a BlackVue hardwired.

now my x5 is at MAC....John said the car is repairable. Now waiting for her insurance...

Gotta love the dash cams. I've been meaning to get one of these. Just curious how did you show it to cops? Connected it to phone?

While waiting for the PO, i downloaded the file from my cam onto my android. Showed the PO when he interviewed me and he was impressed and asked me what model i had.

Sorry about the car, which model of blackvue do you own and did you have to buy any specific power cable to be able to hardwire?

ard 03-15-2014 02:40 AM

Crazy.

I'm having a hard time believing part of it though.....

You say she had insurance??????

Look into Diminished Value...dont ask insurance before you understand the basics.

Sorry to see

Howiedds 03-15-2014 10:05 PM

Hey Ard, sorta dont understand your post.....car is a lease, should i still seek diminished value?

e30cabrio 03-15-2014 11:09 PM

Sorry that happened. I'd appreciate a picture of the dash cam mounted and also exact model.

Thanks

Oh, no- YOU didnt suffer a DV loss, BMWFS will. Make sure it is fixed by a shop that BMW recognizes. You dont want BMWFS coming back to you later.

rdham 03-17-2014 01:12 AM

Sorry about that...the X is a tank though.

Appreciate that info on the model of the cam and hardwiring info as well.

two door panels and its totaled?

Bianca98 03-25-2014 06:54 PM

I know its frustrating to lose a car to an accident like this, but personally I wouldn't want to be paying lease payments or financing on a vehicle with a blemished history as such. Obviously the damage was a little greater than initially thought.

ModBargains 03-25-2014 07:37 PM

always wanted one of those, great stuff

TerminatorX5 03-26-2014 12:02 AM

Man, I am glad you are ok, and whoever rode in the car with you are fine too (were there stray dogs on the street, or it was your dog?)

You got steel nerves - I would have been in a jail on double homicide charges - those two clowns, husband and wife, or whatever they were, would have been drinking from the pools of their own blood!!! not that i care for a car, but i like it, it a toy, and some moron ruin it!!!

I think a dash camera is a must-have, as there are many situations when you need an unbiased witness and there is none - a traffic stop, an accident when the other driver and passenger make a false claim against you or whatever the case might be...

I went a bit further in this quest, and installed an 8-channel mobile DVR, so far I have wired only 2 cameras, front and back, and the whole thing is still work in progress... But there are many great windshield mounted units, and the cost of ownership is manageable...

I hope you get something of comparable value and quality to replace your loss...

good luck

Wonder how will that double sided tape hold up in Phoenix, AZ. With outside temps in the 115's during summer, the tape will melt away... Did you attach the cam via other means? Which version of the BlackVue do you have and I would be interested in the hardwired schematics like other members as well. Thanks!!!

Howiedds 03-26-2014 01:34 PM

Sadly guys, my car is gone and i dont have any pics of the setup. however basically i placed the camera mount right under the mirror plastic casing, ran the wires up to headliner down c-pillar/a-pillar and ran to the cig lighter wiring underneath the console.
that is also how i ran my escort 9500ix too

Matyoka 03-26-2014 01:42 PM

That means that you did not have recording while parked unattended? Since your post I kinda started looking into dash-cams and the best alternative thus far is hard-wiring straight to the battery using a Power Magic... Am I correct? Thanks and good luck with your next wagen.

Howiedds 03-26-2014 01:45 PM

yeah i didnt have the powermagic, had a hard time finding room to place that battery module, so i sold it back on ebay.

Matyoka 03-26-2014 01:54 PM

Thanks again :)

primeral 03-26-2014 05:37 PM

Howiedds, I tried to PM you about the JB Diesel tuner, not sure if it went through.

What are your impressions of it, and how did it affect fuel economy? PM me when you are ready to sell it. Thanks.
