E70 ENGINE LOOKED STRANGE, NEED HELP

This might be a silly question, but why this 2011 X5 engine looked this way, advice needed. I'm interested in it and asked dealer, but they did not explain.

It's missing the plastic engine cover

If the dealer can't explain that, I'd say they're idiots. Regardless of what became of it, which really is a big question all by itself. Why would a dealer even show it that way? Then again, let's not confuse "dealer" with a salesperson.

When you say "dealer" to you mean "BMW Dealership" or "used car lot"?

I basically have three flavors of used car sellers:

1. Dealership for the marque (ie "BMW dealer")
2. Used car lot. (includes: High End Luxury Car retailer, dealership for other marques, travel trailer on wheels on a lot with used cars...all the same_
3. Individuals

I *trust* none of them. I assume the dealer for the marque has more knowledge, but still dont assume they do the right thing. The are, after all, used car salesmen.

Wow,that picture and the lack of explanation on their side sounds scary(for the service,or lack thereof, customers receive).
