Australian Tyre Pricing..

Hi all.

It's getting close to tyre (Aussie spelling of tire) replacement time.
We have a 09 xDrive35d with 315/35/20r 275/40/20f.

The local quotes get up to over $1000.00 per tyre around here. Similar tyres are close to $1000.00 for a full set in the US. This is crazy :wow:

So what's the best solution?
Purchase internationally?
Know any decent local suppliers?

Cheers. Pete (from Brissy)

I am pretty sure it is about similar price for 20in tires like that! Just buy it from your local shop.

I got quoted $550 AUD for the rears and $450 for the front. Same size as mentioned, Bridgestone and fitted.
$1000 each sounds excessive.

Pete ,if you look on ebay at the moment there is a brand new set of Bridgestone run flats in Sydney for $1000.

I did say "up to" over $1000.00 a corner. I have also seen prices around what you were quoted as well but that's still twice the price of what you can get tyres for in the US. And that was for Contie's. Admittedly the USD is stronger than ours atm.

Thanx Skier. $1k is the starting bid. But they are on my watch list for sure.

Cheers

Pete, we pay through the nose in Aus.
Last year, E70 prices started at $99k AUD here and only $64k USD in NYC. This is when the AUD was at the strongest 1.10 USD.
I do buy my parts from the USA and have them shipped.
When shipping tyres, check with companies that ship classic cars from the US, use their forwarding address (holding warehouse) in LA to get free shipping within the US. Some will charge as low as $25 per tyre to bring into OZ in the same container, may be a little more since these tyres are huge. Don't forget to add 10% GST.
I hope that helps.
