Sticky door handles

So the x5 that we just purchased has sticky rear door handles, which from what Iv'e read is a common thing. So Iv'e contemplated buying new handles, but instead decided to give these a try:Grey Stitch Fits BMW x5 E70 07 13 2X Rear Door Handle Leather Covers Only | eBay
My car has the dove grey interior and they are making me a custom set to match my interior. About $45 shipped vs about $100 for each door handle new that will just eventually melt again. Just wanted to share this with those who have this issue.

Hey there, not sure if you tried those covers or not, but I just received mine and couldn't be happier. Sticky door handle pulls have been a problem for me with at least four past BMWs and with the current X6. Like you, contemplated new pulls or scraping off the rubber. I opted for trying these and couldn't be happier with the fit. Easy to put on (velcro), cheap, and most of all, looks great. Problem solved! Highly recommended. Look for j-r-customs on eBay and you'll see a bunch of covers for different models (including X).

Hi, I know it's a bit late, but I fixed mine using the covers from this company https://www.leathersteering.com/en/5...-x5-e70-x6-e71

I went for the Carbon Fiber leather cover, it's fantastic, looks stunning and I am very happy with it.

I followed their installation instruction video, it was so easy.

Hope this helps people who have the same problem as I had.

FYI I read somewhere on here or another forum that this is actually caused by or at least in part by the hand lotions significant others use before getting in the vehicle. A startling number of ppl have seen this ONLY on the passenger side handle where their wives sit...
If this is true you may or may not see it depending on your situation. Or your hand lotion tendencies :)

I can neither confirm or deny this as my wife's car does not have the handle on the driver door, and the passenger door does suffer from this but we've had the car over 10 yrs so certainly she has sat on the passenger side when I drive...
Haven't seen it in my X5 yet but she is rarely in there.

All 3 door handles in my X5 had become sticky. I just took the handles off, removed the sticky coating, sanded everything down to smooth bare plastic, and reinstalled.

Mine started at 115k. But there may be some truth to the hand oils and kid hands factor.
